Amanda Buckman and Lucas Connett are engaged to be married. She is the daughter of Michelle and Thomas Cobb and Brian and Karen Buckman, all of St. Joseph. He is the son of Therese and Brint Connett of Gower, Mo. The future bride is a 2002 graduate of Bishop LeBlond High School, a 2006 graduate of Missouri State University in Springfield with a bachelor of science degree in communication sciences and disorders and a 2008 graduate of the University of Central Missouri in Warrensburg with a master's degree in speech-language pathology. She is employed with the St. Joseph School District as a speech-language pathologist. The future groom is a 1999 graduate of East Buchanan High School in Gower and a 2003 graduate of the University of Missouri in Columbia with a bachelor of science degree in agricultural business management. He is employed with Orscheln's Farm and Home as a store manager. Their wedding is to be at 6 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 20, 2008, at the St. Joseph Country Club. A reception will follow.

Kali Demuth and Steven Newcomer are engaged to be married. She is the daughter of Vivian Hardin of Savannah, Mo., and Tony and Debbie Demuth of St. Joseph. He is the son of Jane and Terry Newcomer of Stanberry, Mo. The future bride, a 2005 graduate of Savannah High School, will graduate in 2009 from Missouri Western State University with a degree in elementary education with an emphasis in science. The future groom is a 2005 graduate of Stanberry High School. He is self-employed as a farmer and also works in construction. Their wedding is to be at 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 30, 2008, at Hammer Memorial United Methodist Church in King City, Mo. A reception will follow at Younger's Auction Gallery in Maryville, Mo. Amanda Sauter and Dionel Fiqueroa are engaged to be married. She is the daughter of Sandra and Bob Embrey of Goodyear, Ariz., and John Hale of Savannah, Mo. He is the son of Luz Fiqueroa and her companion, Harvy Lockridge, of Shawnee Mission, Kan. The future bride is a 2001 graduate of Savannah High School and will graduate in September from Vatterott College. The future groom is a 1998 graduate of Lafayette High School and is employed with Omnium as a senior operator. Staci Kay Burns and Matthew Paul Duffy were married Aug. 8, 2008, at the Uptown Theater in Kansas City by Rabbi Stuart Davis. She is the daughter of Vicki and Timothy Burns of St. Joseph. He is the son of Renata and Edward Willner of New York, N.Y. and Dr. Michael Duffy and partner David Duffy of Rancho Mirage, Calif. The bride was escorted by her father. Matron of honor was Jami Leuschen, and bridesmaids were Melissa Duffy, Heather Smith and Ashley Davis. Best man was Zack Tebow, and groomsmen were Zack Doolittle, Ahmed Shalabi and Jag Beveridge. Reader was Scott Leuschen. The reception was held at the Uptown Theater. The rehearsal dinner was held at Buca Di Beppo. She is a 2004 graduate of Central High School and a 2008 graduate of the University of Missouri in Kansas City with a bachelor of fine arts degree in dance. She is employed at OXO in Manhattan, N.Y., as a sales assistant. He is a 2004 graduate of Blue Springs (Mo.) South High School and a 2008 graduate of UMKC with a bachelor of science degree in accounting. He is employed with EA Technologies in New York, N.Y., as a records director.

Cline and Peters
Rachael Cline and Jeremy Peters were married June 7, 2008, at St. James Catholic Church by the Rev. Joseph Totten. She is the daughter of Elizabeth and Patrick Cline of St. Joseph. He is the son of Marcee and Terry Peters of St. Joseph. The bride was escorted by her father. Maid of honor was Anne Cline, and bridesmaids were Janiesa Young, Sarah Reed and Michelle Peters. Best man was Nolan Peters, and groomsmen were Josh Bird, Bryson Mace and David Pendleton. Others in the wedding party were: Emma Ramirez and Holly Peters, flower girls; Ethan Ramirez and Joey Ramirez, ring bearers; and Matthew Cline and Jeremy Hailey, ushers. A reception was held in the St. James Parish building. The rehearsal dinner was held at San Jose Steakhouse. A honeymoon is planned for a later date. The newlyweds reside in St. Joseph. She is a 2004 graduate of Benton High School and will graduate in 2010 from Missouri Western State University with a degree in elementary education. She is employed with Wal-Mart in the pharmacy department. He is a 2005 graduate of Benton High School and is employed with Nodaway Valley Bank as a network administrator.

He graduated from the apprentice program at Hauseman Metal Works and Roofing and worked 18 years before retiring. She graduated from Missouri Methodist School of Nursing in 1958 and from Missouri Western State College in 1987. She has been a nurse for 50 years, working as a surgical nurse at Methodist, medical surgical nurse on the floors and private duty nursing. Hosting the event will be their children and their spouses: Sandy Jo and Benny Freeman, Dannie and Jackie Miller and Randy and Bibi Miller. Also hosting will be six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Gerald and Jean (Klindt) Holcomb, former Faucett, Mo., residents now living in Bella Vista, Ark., will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary Sunday, Aug. 24. They were married on that date in 1958 at the Methodist Church in Coffey, Mo. Hosting a celebration Aug. 2, at the Great Wolf Lodge in Kansas City were their children and their spouses: Tony Holcomb, Lois (Holcomb) and Richard McCollum, Steve and Stephanie Holcomb and Brad and Angela Holcomb. There are seven grandchildren and one great-grandson. The couple also are planning a trip to Germany in the spring.

OREGON, Mo. - Ronald and Carolyn Meyer of Oregon celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary Aug. 16. They were married on that date in 1958 at the Presbyterian Church in Oregon. He worked at Dugdale Packing Co. for 20 years and retired from farming in 2006. She worked at Sears for 14 years and retired from South Holt R-I School in 2003 after 18 years of service. Their children are: Kelly Meyer and his wife, Kathy, of Oregon and Kerry Brunk of Maryville, Mo. Two children, Rodney Meyer and Rhonda Meyer, are deceased.
