Abbey

Kent and Susan Abbey will celebrate their 30th anniversary on Aug. 11. They were married August 11, 1979, at the First Baptist Church, McCook, Neb. They have one son, Sean of Kansas City. Kent is a microbiologist at Boehringer Ingelheim and Susan is a mammographer at Heartland Regional Medical Center. The couple celebrated with a trip to Switzerland earlier this summer. Robert "Bob" and Beverly Alford are being honored with an open house to celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 16, at the Maryville Senior Center. Robert Alford and Beverly Wooten were married August 14, 1949, in Maryville, Mo., at the home of Arthur Raesides, minister. Their family includes Rick Alford of Mountain Home, Ark., and Ken Alford of Maryville. Family and friends are invited to help Bob and Beverly celebrate. Babcock and Kahler

Carlie Elaine Babcock and Trevor Lynn Kahler will exchange wedding vows at the Albrecht-Kemper Museum of Art on Sept. 5, 2009. A reception will follow at the Pony Express Museum. Carlie is a 2004 graduate of Benton High School and Trevor is a 2004 graduate of Savannah High School. Both graduated from Northwest Missouri State University with a bachelor's of science in wildlife ecology and conservation in December 2008. She is the daughter of Charles and Delaina Babcock of St. Joseph. He is the son of Randy and Julie Kahler, also of St. Joseph. Trevor and Carlie are now residents of Oskaloosa, Iowa, where Trevor is employed as a wildlife specialist with the USDA. Carlie is currently employed by Iowa's Dept. of Natural Resources as a field technician.

Norris and Lucille Brock of St. Joseph will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with a family dinner hosted by Fred and Barb Brock. They were married on Aug. 16, 1959. Kenneth L. and Dorothy Butterfield of St. Joseph have been married for 63 years. They were married on Aug. 9, 1946, at the bride's home in Bobtown, Penn. She is the former Ms. Dorothy Reed. The couple met in 1945 while serving in the Marine Corps during World War II in Cherry Point, N.C. They have four children, 11 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Edson and Phyllis (Duve) Marsh of St. Joseph were married August 14, 1959, at the King Hill United Methodist Church in St. Joseph. In honor of their 50th wedding anniversary, their daughters, Beth Ann and Mindy, will host a celebration consisting of dinner and dancing at 6 p.m., Aug. 14, in Kovac's Hall, 121 SE Turner Road. The couple has two daughters, Beth Ann and Steve Roland of Gladstone, Mo., and Mindy and Matt Romesburg of St. Joseph, and two granddaughters, Erica Phillips and Stephanie Roland. Edson and Phyllis have been the owners of Edson R. Marsh Construction, Inc., for 37 years. In partnership with their daughter and son-in-law, Mindy and Matt Romesburg, they renovated the old St. Stanislaus Church, turning the old church into the 515 Alabama Apartments. No gifts, please. Denise Olson of Lee's Summit, Mo., and Bill Pryor of St. Joseph are engaged to be married. She is the daughter of Don and Juana Bradley. He is the son of Fredia and Rex Pryor. Nichole Marie Sluss and Justin Daniel Wright are engaged to be married. She is the daughter of Bill and Tami Sluss of Loveland, Colo., and the granddaughter of Jerri Boring of Mesa, Ariz., and the late Katherine and Steve Sluss. The future bride is a graduate of the University of Northern Colorado, Greeley, and is currently the director of development with Northwest Health Services. Justin is the son of Roger and Sue Wright of St. Joseph and the grandson of Dan and Irene Ramirez of St. Joseph and the late Bill and Toney Wright. He graduated from Missouri Western State University and is currently a marketing executive with On-line Taxes, Inc. Both reside in St. Joseph and plan to be married Aug. 15, 2009, at Crystal Peak, Peak Seven in Breckenridge, Colo. A reception will be held at Sevens, Breckenridge, Colo. Jody Leigh Rhoden and Andy Lee Stufflebean of St. Joseph were united in marriage on July 11, 2009. The ceremony took place at 2 p.m. at Riverside Church in St. Joseph. She is the daughter of Donna Jones of St. Joseph, Nancy Jackson of Muskegon, Mich., and Bill Jones of Holton, Kan. He is the son of Florance Stufflebean, and Ron and Peggy Stufflebean, all of St. Joseph.

Wilson

Monty and Irma Lee Wilson will be celebrating 60 years of marriage on Aug. 20. They were married at the Methodist Church in Elmo, Mo., on Aug. 20, 1949. Monty attended MU Law School, Columbia, Mo., and Irma Lee taught at Stephens College. After graduating from MU Law School in 1952, they returned to Maryville and have resided there since then. Monty served as the Probate-Magistrate Judge from 1959 until 1976 when he was elected to serve as the 4th Judicial Circuit Judge from 1977 until his retirement on Dec. 31, 1988. Their children are: Richard J. Wilson, who is deceased; and Lee Ann Wilson Cocchiara and son-in-law, Anthony Cocchiara, Tuttle, Okla. Their grandchildren are Phillip A. Wilson, Kansas City, Mo., and Kimberly Redd Mosby and grandson-in-law, Shannon Mosby, Eldridge, Iowa. Great-grandchildren are Olivia Mosby and Jackson Mosby, Eldridge, Iowa.
