Anniversary: Duncan
Pete and Colleene Duncan of Troy, Kan., will be celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, October 18, at the Masonic Temple, located at the corner of Popular and Main streets in Troy.
Friends and family are invited to attend.

Anniversary: Ezzell
Wayne and Kay Ezzell of St. Joseph were married September 24, 1959.
They have four children, Lorrie Hudson, Julie Elliott, Zack Ezzell, and the late Thersa Morse; 13 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Wedding: Farney
Claire Kathleen Fitzpatrick became the bride of Christopher Michael Farney at a Nuptial Mass celebrated August 8, 2009, at the Cathedral of St. Joseph. The Rev. Meinrad Miller OSB of Benedictine College was the officiating priest.
The River String Quartet played before and during the ceremony. For the entrance and recessional tunes, the quartet was accompanied by Bill Richardson on the trumpet. Christie Ottinger was the vocalist. Mrs. Ottinger was accompanied by the quartet and by Daniel Lawhon on organ and piano.
Parents of the couple are Dan and Kim Fitzpatrick of St. Joseph, and Rich and Vickie Farney of Wilson, Kansas.
Given in marriage by her father, the bride wore a floor-length strapless gown with a sweet-heart neckline that was adorned with rhinestones. Its asymmetric dropped waistline flowed into a full skirt with a chapel train.
Rachel Akers was maid of honor. Bridesmaids were: Ellen and Abby Fitzpatrick, sisters of the bride; Tricia Farney, sister of the groom; Sarah Rieker, and Jamie Landers. All wore floor length gowns of adriatic blue dupioni silk.
Casey Moore was best man and groomsmen were: Andrew and David Farney, brothers of the groom; Truman Ashby, Matthew Denning, and Brett Johnson. Ushers were: Andy Weber and Chuck Davis, cousins of the bride; Scott Landers, Zack Lane, Josh Arens, and Mark Brost.
Brook Ptacek, cousin of the groom, was the flower girl, and Lucas Swymeler, cousin of the bride, was the ring bearer. Emma Davis, cousin of the bride, and Jaclyn Dickens were servers at the Mass. The readers were: Steve Swymeler, Jr., cousin of the bride; Steve Farney, uncle of the groom; and Patty Ziesel. Gift bearers were: John and Kay Mallon, godparents and aunt and uncle of the bride; and Ken and Elaine Ptacek, godparents and aunt and uncle of the groom. Presiding at the guest book were Whitney Seiter and Bonnie O’Brien. Programs were distributed by Laura van Tiel, cousin of the bride, and Angie Albers, cousin of the groom.
After the ceremony a dinner dance was held at the St. Joseph Country Club. The gifts were attended by Michelle Collins. The cake was served by Lisa Adams, Lori Weber, and Lynn Davis, cousins of the bride.
The rehearsal dinner was hosted by the groom’s parents at the Albrecht Kemper Museum of Art.
An engagement party was hosted by Ellen and Abby Fitzpatrick. A ladies shower/brunch and a bachelorette party were hosted by the bridesmaids. A dinner party/shower was hosted by Kay and John Mallon and another was hosted by Steve and Peggy Dillon, Mary Margaret and Neal Gray, Steve and Lora Lorenz, Mo and Bridget Matthias, Randy and Vicki Rowland, and Mike and Patty Ziesel.
Out of town guests at the wedding included friends and family from nineteen states, the District of Columbia and Switzerland.
After the wedding the couple honeymooned on the Grand Cayman Island.
Anniversary: Golden
Roger and Shirley Golden of St. Joseph were united in marriage October 19, 1974, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, St. Joseph. She is the former Ms. Brinton.
In honor of their anniversary, a trip to Cancun, Mexico, will be taken in November.
Their children are Shaun and Salina Golden and Cortney Golden. There are two grandchildren, Dauson and Alexis Gordon.

Engagement: Hoefer and Borges
Kimberly Ann Hoefer of St. Joseph and Jeremy T. Borges of Gallatin, Mo., are engaged to be married.
She is the daughter of Leo and Shirley Hoefer, who reside in St. Joseph. He is the son of James and Mariea Borges, who live in Gallatin.
The wedding will take place at 2 p.m. on October 17, 2009, at St. Francis Xavier Church in St. Joseph.
Anniversary: Richie
Robert and Mary Richie of St. Joseph were united in marriage October 11, 1949.
Their four sons, Pete (Susie), Pat (Melissa), Mark (Cari) and Jim (Kim), hosted a surprise party at Boudreaux’s on September 26 for family and friends in honor of their anniversary.
There are eight grandchildren with one on the way.

Engagement: Roberts and Markt
Mindy Jean Roberts and Kyle Chase Markt, both of Savannah, Mo., are engaged to be married.
She is the daughter of George and Wilma Roberts of Savannah. He is the son of John Markt of Savannah and Pamela Markt of St. Joseph.
The ceremony will take place at 5 p.m. on October 24, 2009, at First Baptist Church in Savannah. A reception will follow at the Clasby Center in Savannah.
Engagement: Stroud and Bryan
Kailey Renee Stroud of Gower, Mo., and Jacob Tyler Bryan of Savannah, Mo., are engaged to be married.
She is the daughter of Marsha Turner and Christ Yarnell of Cosby, Mo., and Jeff and Toni Stroud of St. Joseph. He is the son of Tony and Joan Bryan of Savannah.
The wedding will take place at 6 p.m. October 17, 2009, at Grace Evangelical Church, St. Joseph.
Anniversary: Swyhart
LeRoy and Shirley Swyhart of Austin, Texas, were married at Wyatt Park Baptist Church on October 16, 1949. They were both born and raised in St. Joseph.
They have four children: a daughter in Atlanta, two sons in Austin and a son who moved to St. Joseph to raise his son in a small city. There are eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
The couple resides at 410 Blueberry Hill, Austin, TX 78745.
Anniversary: Thomas
Dean and Sharon Thomas, St. Joseph, will celebrate their 40th wedding anniversary from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Sunday, October 25, at Francis Street United Methodist Church, 12th and Francis streets, St. Joseph.
All friends and family are invited to attend the event hosted by their daughters, Emily Thomas and Betsy Thomas, both of Kansas City, Mo.
The couple was married on October 26, 1969, at the United Methodist Church in Sheridan, Mo. Dean is the son of the late Eldon and Esta Lee Thomas; Sharon is the daughter of the late John and Dorothy Nelson, all of Sheridan.
