I was cruising PerezHilton.com yesterday, when I saw the wonderful news that Lifetime had bought the rights to “Project Runway,” which means I’ll actually be able to watch the next season!
My excitement was quickly doused, though, when I scrolled down to the next item and saw that Lifetime was taking “The Golden Girls,” one of its longtime programs, off the air. WHAT?!?!
What will I watch at night before I go to bed? What will I watch in the morning as I get ready for work? “The Golden Girls” has been a staple of my daily routine since I moved to St. Joe.
I’m not the only one who is angered and outraged over this move. Lifetime’s Golden Girls page was filled with comments from unhappy viewers, many of them vowing to boycott Lifetime and saying the only reason they watch is because of “The Golden Girls.”
Lifetime apparently wants to make room for “the next generation” of TV sitcoms, with shows like “Reba,” “Still Standing” and “Will and Grace,” none of which I bother to watch and none of which have the classic appeal of “The Golden Girls.”
“The Golden Girls” will move to the Hallmark channel February of next year. The fact that the show will be still be on the air does give me a bit of comfort. So does belting out the show’s chorus (sing with me now): Thank you for being a friend, travel down the road and back again, your heart is true, you’re a pal and a confidante.
