In honor of tax day I’ve decided to recap all the bargains in town, free or otherwise.
There are free tax preparation services and filings for the elderly and low-income families at several locations in St. Joseph today. InterServ has set up a temporary office in the East Hills Shopping center and will be open until 5 p.m. The IRS office, located at 201 S. Eighth St. will be open until 5:30 p.m.
There are no coin-operated stamp machines in any local post offices and only the downtown post office will be open after 5 p.m. It closes at 5:30 p.m. today only.
Late filers can go to Roger’s Green Hills supermarket, 1004 Fifth Ave., until 9 p.m. but the last chance in St. Joseph for a guaranteed April 15 postmark will be at about 10:45 p.m. tonight.
For a little stress reliever, Fast Gas convenience stores are offering customers specials on a choice of king size candy bar, ice cream sandwich, hot dog or chips. Any three for $1 at their six locations.
