Geneo’s Pizza and Pub

811 Francis St.

232-4000

As of April 15, the last coat of paint was going on Sammy and Casey’s, a new addition to Geneo’s Pizza and Pub in downtown St. Joseph. The addition makes an interesting three-in-one setup: the restaurant in the middle, a quiet bar on the right and Sammy and Casey’s on the left. They are all connected on the inside, but have separate entrances.

Owners Shannan Jourdan and her husband, Geneo DeSpain, opened the restaurant in 2006 and have been working on the addition for the last three months. It will make the total restaurant/bar area close to 8,000 square feet. Geneo says he wants this to be a destination place, where people can come on dates or with families or groups and eat pizza, drink beer play pool, air hockey or one of their many arcade and video games, watch one of their 10 flat screen TVs and just have a good time.

Although the TVs, games and pool tables are new, the restaurant has that old-time atmosphere only a downtown building can provide: worn oak floors, high ceilings, architectural detail, etched mirrors and stained-glass windows. The good news is that unlike some downtown establishments, the new, remodeled bathrooms are a bragging point.

The menu is the same as when it opened: casual, Italian-style food like calzones, sub sandwiches and pizza. News-Press readers have recommended their calzones and toasted Italian sandwiches for Best Bites. They also offer beer and a full bar.

Pay attention to the time if you are under 21 years old. The restaurant hours are 11 a.m. to 9 p.m, and underagers are welcome to come play some pool and drink a pop with an adult at Sammy and Casey’s during those hours. But once the clock strikes nine, you must be 21.

Sammy and Casey’s stays open until 1:30 a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays. They are closed on Sundays. Call 232-4000 for carry-out and information on private rentals.
