Midwest Innocence Project visits Missouri Western

Criminal justice students at Missouri Western received some insight into a different side of justice Friday. Tiffany Murphy from the Midwest Innocence Project presented Friday in Spratt Hall to nearly 30 students and faculty. There she spoke about what the organization is about and how they help students at the University of Missouri-Kansas City.

The Midwest Innocence Project provides investigation and legal assistance to prisoners with persuasive claims of innocence. Students at UMKC work with the prisoners to try and obtain the release of the innocent prisoners through judicial proceedings. From 1992 to 1995 there were 159 inmates exonerated of serious crimes through post-conviction review of cases using DNA testing.
