With a tour named after his childhood hero, Harry Truman, Democratic candidate for Missouri attorney general Jeff Harris made a stop in St. Joseph on Saturday.
The 72-hour Missouri tour known as the Give ’Em Hell Harris Tour began Saturday in Moberly, Mo., and made its way to St. Joseph by 6 p.m., with stops scheduled for Kirksville, Trenton, Chillicothe, Kansas City and ending in St. Louis on Monday.
Running against three other Democrats in the Aug. 5 primary, Mr. Harris holds a platform of leadership, experience and guts. As a House minority leader with more than 20 years of experience and the guts to stand up for what he believes in, Mr. Harris plans to protect consumers, natural resources and working families.
A Columbia, Mo., native Mr. Harris has spent time working as the assistant Missouri attorney general under current Attorney General Jay Nixon.
During his stay in St. Joseph, Mr. Harris acknowledged his friends in organized labor and praised his contributors. Mr. Harris said his campaign has raised more than $100,000 in Internet fundraising alone. All three of his competitors fall behind that total.
“Because we are in a multi-candidate situation, every vote really counts,” Mr. Harris said in front of the St. Joseph crowd. “We need your vote.”
While his mother, father and sister sat behind the scenes, Mr. Harris made promises for families in St. Joseph and across the state.
“It’s just natural for me to stop in St. Joseph,” Mr. Harris said. “I support working families.”

"and the guts to stand up for what he believes in." Whoa! That's a lot of editorializing in a news story. The editor could have helped an inexperienced reporter by attributing this comment to Mr. Harris, who presumably believes it, rather than having it appear as if an observation by the reporter.
