Temperatures soared into the upper 90's Monday afternoon leaving most people dodging the scorching heat. Others were left with no choice.

Maintenance and construction crews work whether it's 60 degrees or it's 110 heat index. Organizations like the City of St. Joseph and the Missouri Department of Transportation hold safety meetings before heading out to ensure their workers remain safe. St. Joseph maintenance crews say they are supplied with extra water and breaks if necessary.

While there haven't been any heat related injuries reported this year. it is very possible. City workers say on these extreme days, especially dealing with asphalt, their jobs can be difficult since air temperature feels like it's 100 and the asphault under their boots is 325 degrees.

Good news is on the way, St. Joe Now's Lindie Patton says we should see a cool down on Tuesday with a chance of rain.
