Tour of Missouri field grows more competitive
The Tour of Missouri fleshed out its field of competitors on Monday.
Columbia and Toyota-United — two of the world’s top teams — already were announced as part of the race, which will take place Sept. 8 to 14 and starts in St. Joseph. But on Monday, the remaining 13 teams were announced, and it includes Garmin-Chipotle and Liquigas — top performers at this year’s Tour de France.
The field also will include Team Columbia’s George Hincapie — last year’s champion . Toyota-United’s Ivan Dominguez, who won two stages at least year’s event, also will race.
“We have a tremendous field,” said Tour of Missouri event director Chris Aronhalt. “It’s definitely deeper in terms of talent – and we think it’s complete. Of the 15 teams and 120 riders, any one of those guys can win it.”
Aronhalt said each team has a few weeks to finalize its rosters.
The race spans seven days. The first stage starts in St. Joseph and finishes on the Country Club Plaza in Kansas City.
