175 volunteers needed for Ride Missouri
by Bob Heater
Tuesday, August 19, 2008

Tour Of Missouri is seeking volunteers.

The 600 mile bike ride will begin in St. Joseph September 8th at Civic Center Park. The 120 riders from around the world will wind through St. Joseph with all intersections, alleys and driveways having to be blocked to protect the riders. The city is in need of many Course Marshalls who will be temporarily stationed throughout the course to make sure traffic doesn't interfere with riders.

Mary Robertson, with the city of St. Joseph, says as the riders progress through town, police and highway patrol cars will implEment a "rolling roadblock" and the marshalls will aid with that. Robertson says about 175 local volunteers will be needed that Saturday, Sunday and Monday.

You can register to volunteer on line at the city's website, www.stjoemo.info Look for the Tour Of Missouri tab or, you can call the city for more information at 816-271-4610.

Racers from many different countries will participate in the race that starts in St. Joseph, then on to Kansas City and across the state ending in St. Louis.
