It's your call, Aug. 27, 2008

Fact checker

All you Democrats never cease to amaze me. First, in “It’s your call,” a guy cannot tell Iran from Iraq. John McCain said in a humorous way, “Bomb, bomb, bomb ... bomb, bomb Iran.” Not Iraq. Get your facts straight. Now I’m seeing that in Denver, it’s costing an extra $50 million for police protection. Are you Democrats paying for that? Nah. I think us taxpayers are. Just like always, you Democrats can find ways to spend money, but you always find ways to pay for it ... taxes.

Always asking

This is a new type of cure ... more tax increases coming. Here we go again. We barely got past defeating the senior tax proposal and now certain other folks want to get into the tax increase business. Could someone explain in detail what the original 63-cent school levy was approved for. In the “Our opinion” section of the paper it says for operating funds, flexibility and reserves. Now, wouldn’t we all like to have more flexibility and reserves, but many people don’t have either. Where are all of the reserves? Maybe if they would have done it correctly in the first place we would have the money for two new schools instead of wanting another 20- to 25-cent increase.

Let them walk

I see in this morning’s paper on Aug. 26 that the school district is buying up a bunch of houses around Central to make parking lots so that students can drive their cars to school. Now my question: Is this coming out of the $29 million-plus reserve account that the school district’s got, or is this going to be part of the 63 cents-plus 25 cents tax levy that they want us to pass in April? I agree with the caller in yesterday’s paper. The superintendant’s No. 1 priority should be the educating of the student, not getting more money into the district. I can assure you that mine is one vote that is going to be an astounding no. If the district has this kind of money to waste they don’t need more.

Listen up

Attention all candidates Democrat and/or Republican: This voter will no longer contribute money, time, support and enthusiasm for you and your candidacy until you starting talking issues for real such as: senior needs, unemployment, health issues, foreign trade, national security, rebuilding this country morally and physically, and supporting our original Constitution because we no longer are a strong nation. And mostly stop this nonstop spending of our money to stand before us to stir and slam the other candidates. It is an embarrassment that you spend so much money on campaigns when there is so much want and need of our people.

I am curious how much gasoline could be saved if all of the school kids throughout this country who drive cars to school rode the bus or walked to school? Just in St. Joseph this would likely be thousands of gallons per year. I realize that some have jobs to get to after school but I doubt the majority do. Just stop and think how much gas is being wasted. If the Democrats would take a real stand and push to stop this wastefulness, we Republicans might stop pushing so hard for drilling in the ANWR.

Democrats.....any takers?

Fact Checker--
Are you so naive to think that there won't be increased police protection at the Republican National Convention? That there won't be extra costs for police protection at the RNC?

It is amazing how some are so intent at bashing the other party that they don't care what they say-- and in turn, it just makes them look so biased that any of their opinions lack merit.

For the record, I am not an Obama fan or Democrat-- just someone who thinks the bashing has gotten out of hand. It would be nice if everyone would spend their time and energy talking about the good points of their party or favorite candidate instead of trying to make the other party or candidate look terrible.

Kas:

I agree totally. The same people post here as well as after the "letters to the editors". We all understand they are expressing their beliefs and their opinions since they are expressed daily in answer to almost anything on the opinion page. Give us a break and get a life. Your continous raking of every little thing and especially your blaming on a political way of thinking over and over and over is getting pretty stale and lame. If you are trying to make a point it has been lost in your ramblings. Quite, frankly only those who like "yellow" journalism seems to post and post their opinions. WE GET IT. You do not like democrats and the world is going to hell in a hand basket.

Come on, if you think you are changing anyone's mind by your comments, I believe you are grossly mistaken. In doing research for a book I have been monitoring several postings
across the US. It appears that St Joe is unique in that the same people are posting and posting and posting with the same reocurring expressions. You are perfectly in your rights, to express your opinions but to do it over and over just negates any value of the opinion.

To be blunt, I tended to lean toward the republican side but with these incessant postings, I can not support a group who is so radical and derogatory in their thinking. I do not want to be in the same classification so, I guess, your postings have swayed one voter over to the other side.

Of course, you could always stand on a busy street corner with a sign "The World is coming to and End"

LDT:

I am so glad I am not the only one that feels that way. If some of the post-ers would go back and look over what they have posted in the past they would see a pattern-- same old, same old! We all know how you think (over and over and over again!)

And some of the ramblings are so ridiculous that even those who don't follow politics can see the absurdity in their comments... Like Democrats need to take a stand to stop kids from driving to school to solve the country's wastefulness???? Get real! Only someone who hasn't had their morning coffee would see any validity in a comment like that. As soon as I read comments like that, anything else that has been said by the post-er has been negated!!

"I guess, your posings have swayed one voter over to the other side."

Gee Kas. Your to easy. Me think you was a democrat all along.Lol

To the unmarked post:

KAS did not say that I did. Prime example that you can not cure stupidity.

LDT:
Come on people! What a phony! "I was leaning republican but due to the same people posting I have changed my mind." Come on! Then you make the comment that these postings sway no one. Liberal hypocrazy at its best. It allegedly swayed you! Amazing you would be calling someone else "stupid". I haven't seen such a phoney since Obama planting Rucker in the crowd to ask him a "staged" question. No wonder Obama looks so smart. He would have done well on the "Quiz show" getting the answers before they are asked.

LTD... You talk a big talk but I would not keep admitting that you let people that ramble swayed you to the other side. You must be easily swayed. You should run for President!

gr8fan:

Is that the best you can do or say. I
will put up my credentials, etc. against yours any day of the week. Since you do not know my political views you are quick to make assumptions.

Of course, you can and will have the last word on this because it this not going to change any bodies way of thinking.

Oh yes, signed the phony, who has made so much money from the republican administration that I just can not spend it all.

I made the comment that some post-ers are so intent on bad-mouthing others that they can't see the comments they are making are actually making them look ridiculous and I definitely stand by that comment. Case in point-- the comments about a staged question. If you research your facts, you will find that staged questions have used by BOTH parties! It is a fact of campaigning. Many times the staged question has used to open dialogue on an issue.

And to the post-er who made the comment that I was easy... my husband begs to differ. He says I was his hardest conquest :)

(By the way, if you are going to put someone down, it is usually more effective to employ the proper usage of the words...such as you're, too, were, etc. Doesn't make you sound so ignorant)

Excellent points. I had forgot to mention about the spelling and incorrect word usage.

Thank you for support.

LDT - that would be "I had FORGOTTEN to mention...."

LDM1982:

Ok you win. There just does not seem to be any value in
a comment section that brings out the worst in ideas and personal comments.

I have learned my lesson by being wipped by the elite.

These comments and others from this location are going to make excellent material for a published book.

I will refrain from all other comments because I know that my education can not possibly hold up to yours.

I had made the change to forgotten but posted my earlier version.

It all just a joke anyhow.

Posted by KAS on August 27, 2008 at 11:21 a.m. (Suggest removal)

Maybe LDT meant "I FORGOT to mention..." Either way, it is a much more forgivable (and common) error than YOUR for YOU'RE or TO for TOO. Even second graders know the proper usage of those words.

LDT:

I hope you’re not writing the book you’re researching. With your spelling, grammar & punctuation the only book you could write is “How to Massacre the English Language”.

I’m sure all Conservatives hate to lose you from “our side” due to “a group who is so radical and derogatory in their thinking”. You might want to read some blogs from the “other side”, I’m quite certain you know where they are.

Posted by KAS on August 27, 2008 at 11:34 a.m. (Suggest removal)

I was a little late on my comment.

You are right. It is all a joke. Some post-ers are so sure that their candidate...party...affliation, or whatever... is so perfect, never mispeaks, never makes comments out of context, etc that they can post the same old thing over and over again. (All Democrats are dumb, Obama is a muslim, Obama will take this country down the path of no return, etc are some of the comments repeated incessantly)

I have NOT made my decision on where my vote is going. All I know is that I am ready for a big change. Now if I could just find someone to make that change...

Dalearch:
My writing has allowed me to obtain two doctorates from two major universities. It has allowed me to publish computer training manuals and co-author a couple of textbooks. Perhaps, my spelling, etc problems stem from getting my first education from one of your area schools. Now I know that people strive for education but once it is obtained then others put it down. I will tell you this; I get more people to listen to me and get to make more important decisions because of my education than most.

You know, if that is all there is to finding fault with someone because they have a different view then there is nothing more that can be said. Now Mr. DaleArch I have copies of many, many of your comments on this on-line News paper. I would be very careful before I throw stones at someone else.

All of my education came from local schools. Platte Valley (which is now Bessie Ellison) to Central High and to Missouri Western. I don’t think you can blame it on the local schools.

LDT... Your comment on 2nd graders really made me think, I have a granddaughter in the 1st grade and she knows that at is rude to make fun of people. This is something your years of schooling never taught you. I am sure the people you get to listen to you are struck by your delusions of grandeur. If it pains you so much to read these comments then stop.

younggrandma--
I was the one that made the comment about the 2nd graders. I am not really sure how you think that the comment I made about grammar is rude compared to the comments made by the original post-er. I was pointing out a FACT! The fact was the post-er made several grammatical errors which made the post-er appear ignorant. The errors were so simple that even a second grader has been taught the proper usage.

Could it be that you were so intent on putting down LDT that you misconstrued the fact that the original post-er was the rude one?

KAS,
My suggestion to stop kids from driving to school for no reason is a bad suggestion how exactly? Do you not think that all of the cars these kids are driving are wasting gas? We constantly hear liberals whine about how the Republicans don't come up with "real" solutions, that we only want to "drill for more oil." Well, I offered a suggestion and look who the first person is to criticize. For "not being a Democrat", It sounded awfully liberal-like.

Also, if my rantings are enough to help sway your vote, perhaps you were not too sure of your voting stance in the first place. You shouldn't blame us "bashers" for your fence sitting.

If LDT is serious about writing a book, I would suggest he get a good editor. I can understand typos, "and" when he meant "an," "use" when he meant "used," but "any bodies" should be "anybody's" and the correct spelling of the word is credence, not credance. One who boasts of academic credentials should be careful of what he writes.

Go back and read my comment. I didn't say that your suggestion to stop kids from driving to school for no reason was bad. I said it was a ridiculous statement because you wrote "If the Democrats would take a real stand and push to stop this wastefulness... Why should it be up to the Democrats alone to stop wastefulness in this country. It should be the responsibility of ALL OF US!!

If you consider me liberal because I look at all the facts before making a decision...or before posting a ridiculous statement...or refuse to play the political bashing game... so be it. I know where I stand politally and I am very comfortable with it. I don't feel the need put down other candidates instead of extolling the merits of the candidate who is getting my vote.

I guess I am a liberal and can not spell. I thought I was doing pretty good text messagimg on my cell phone using my thumbs while flying the plane with the air traffic control computer being down. Just a joke for those serious post-ers.

I guess i should be given 20 years hard labor for my spelling errors. Maybe ths why i got fired as a speech writer for Bush since he chops up the English language pretty well. Another joke people.

Posted by Rax on August 27, 2008 at 7:54 p.m. (Suggest removal)

I suggested the Democrats look into it because they always claim to be the ones who do all of the work when it comes to finding solutions. I was simply suggesting they put their money where their mouths are.

<KAS> "And some of the ramblings are so ridiculous that even those who don't follow politics can see the absurdity in their comments... Like Democrats need to take a stand to stop kids from driving to school to solve the country's wastefulness????"

And you tell us we shouldn't bash others? Kettle, meet Pot.

Posted by KAS on August 28, 2008 at 8:18 a.m. (Suggest removal)

You can call me the kettle all you want but at least I stand by my comments. I don't try to lump everyone into "them" and "us". I have my own opinion. I am not part of the pack mentality that some others show by blaming everything they don't agree with as being the fault of "them" (i.e. Democrats or Republicans).

It is like saying all blondes are airheads, all redheads have a temper or everyone in Germany agreed with Hitler's views. I know those statements are incorrect but when someone has the pack mentality, those statement become true in their minds.

I have looked and I have looked but nowhere can I find where "the Democrats" have always claimed "they" are the ones who do all the work when it comes to finding solutions. Did "we" tell you this so you believe it is the honest-to-God truth?

Please tell me you don't vote a straight party line without researching all the candidates. There is nothing more scary than someone that doesn't think outside the box when it comes to politics.

KAS,
Please humor me, I am a little slow so let me go over this one more time so I understand you correctly...... I post a suggestion (to reduce wasteful gasoline usage) which, in my opinion is a valid one and you criticize it as ridiculous because I want the Dems to take it and run with it. Then, you go on to say how tired you are of people coming onto these blogs and complaining about others when they do not have any suggestions themselves?

Do you see the hypocrisy or do I need to use pictures?

Posted by KAS on August 28, 2008 at 12:35 p.m. (Suggest removal)

Rax-

I don't think YOU see the hypocrisy. You are so quick to blame "them" that you don't see the problem. But then again, if you aren't part of the solution, you are part of the problem.

I am still trying to figure out why you think the suggestion to have DEMOCRATS find the solution to reduce wasteful gasoline usage is valid. It should be EVERYONE'S (all political parties) goal to try to find a solution, not to pass the buck to only one group. Unless you are trying to say that you, as part of the Republican party, are incapable of trying to find a solution and have to follow the pack????

You need to re-read my posts. Never once did I say that your actual suggestion to reduce gas usage was ridiculous. I wrote it was ridiculous that you thought only the DEMOCRATS should take a stand a stand against excessive gasoline usage.

Do I need to use pictures?

Posted by Rax on August 28, 2008 at 12:56 p.m. (Suggest removal)

Funny, I don't recall blaming anyone. The Dems are quick to claim that they want to find other solutions to the oil situation without drilling while they claim that all Republicans want to do is drill, and I simply offered this "non-drilling" suggestion.

Guess I'd better break out the crayons and the Big Chief for you because it is obvious you aren't getting it through words....

Posted by KAS on August 28, 2008 at 1:24 p.m. (Suggest removal)

I don't think crayons would help to get my point across to you... so let me try a different way....

Show me where Democrats, and only Democrats, claim they want to find other solutions, and where Democrats claim ALL Republicans want to do is drill! I haven't found ANYWHERE that these claims are made except in your posts. I am part of the MAJORITY who thinks the solution needs to come from ALL of us.

I will quote your first post..."If the Democrats would take a real stand and push to stop this wastefulness, we Republicans might stop pushing so hard for drilling in the ANWR." I took this as you blaming the "Democrats" for not taking a stand as the cause for "Republicans" pushing to drill in the ANWR. You made it very clear you weren't looking for a solution... "we Republicans might stop blah blah blah"

I guess I will just have realize that I am the type of person that looks at the whole picture with an open mind and there are still those who only want to blame the "other guy", instead of seeing both sides.
