Want to hear some new Metallica?
by Blake Hannon
Wednesday, August 27, 2008

After tons of hype and releasing dissatisfactory snippets of upcoming tracks, Metallica finally let's listeners hear a full-length song.

The link is http://www.metallica.com/index.asp?item=601136

My verdict: Five minutes of furious "Harvester of Sorrow"-meets-"Battery" days of old. A promising taste of a possible return to greatness. Listen for yourself and comment back with your own verdict.

Return to greatness? Metallica will and always has been great. No fairweather fans please. Thanks for the link though. I would reword your verdict..... They are great and always will be.

I'm just messin with ya. I like the song. Metallica does sound very different than in the past. They are bringing back their old feel. I like it...!

devinbroncs123, While I haven't been a fan of Metallica's since the very beginning (I was born in 1981), I have been ever since hearing "One" for the first time and worked my way back through their catalogue.

While they're last few albums post-"Black Album" (and "Garage Inc.") are good, I wouldn't quite put them in the same standing as a "Master of Puppets," "And Justice For All" or "Ride the Lightning." "St. Anger" was good and very aggressive, but I think you agree that it didn't showcase the musicianship that we both know these guys are capable of.

To me, "My Apocalypse" is a return to a form and a promising example of what made them such a force to be reckoned with in the first place.

I'm just excited to get their new album and to see these guys live again, where they never fail to deliver.

I hope it is. I heard another one of their new songs last night and i couldn't quite pick it out. It has a new tune. Almost more punkish as opposed to metal. I can't say I wasn't a little disapointed because frankly, I was.

I want to hear something powerful by them. Something that makes you feel stronger. More metalish without the screaching. So far, it's better than St. Anger. Either or, I love Metallica and will always respect whatever they put out. I can't wait to see them in KC in October.
