Annual Krug Park Bash to feature free family entertainment
by Sylvia Anderson
Friday, August 29, 2008

Don’t say there’s nothing to do in St. Joseph. Fred Moore, professionally known as DJ Heat, has taken care of that problem — at least for this weekend.

He will be hosting the 11th annual Krug Park Bash from 6 to 10 p.m. Aug. 31. The free event at Krug Park will feature live entertainment for the whole family, including music, singing, dancing and roller-skating routines. People will be able to sit in seats by the stage or on the lawn with their blankets and folding chairs.

“I always overheard people saying St. Joseph doesn’t have anything to do,” he says, “so I’ve tried to get something for everybody. I want it so that anyone from 6 months to 160 won’t be offended by what we are putting on there.”

The bash will showcase a variety of talent, including hip-hop artist Toot, from Omaha, Neb., who has opened for major acts such as Snoop Dogg. Also from Omaha will be Blackguy, and from Topeka, Kan., R&B singer TaNeisha Iyonna and Burnna Blocc. Local talent will include Miss Melanie from Plattsburg, Mo., Baby Red, Mi$$ Trouble, Tim Groce from Savannah, Mo., gospel singer Merlyn Hughes and inspirational singer Carlton Carmon. The Zeta Phi Beta sorority from Missouri Western State University will be doing a step performance, and “Stevon” from Kansas City will present a roller-skating routine to music.

This will be the 10th year at the bash for local rap singer Beretta B. with the Dub 4/7 Hu$tlaz. He usually plays hip-hop and rap but will be doing something different with rock music at this show.

“It’s going to be a surprise for everyone this year,” he says.

And just as in past years, all of the artists will be performing for free. Beretta B. says that’s one reason he does it.

“It’s a way to give back to the community,” he says. “Giving it back is what makes it the best. And it’s just a real nice get-together.”
