Big whiners
This city has a bunch of whiners. All they do is whine, whine, whine. Regarding the Shop St. Joseph contest, they should award 10 winners $1,000 each, instead of giving one $10,000. Or, why not give $1 each to 10,000 lucky people? Then, 10,000 people would be happy. There would only be 30,000 who are still whining. And as far as the Chiefs and their indoor stadium go, Missouri Western will cherish that all year round when the Chiefs are long gone. They’ll be able to use it for so many more things. Whine, whine, whine. Give me a break.

One bright beacon
This is in response to “Believe it or not” and the true date of Jesus’ birthday. Apparently an astronomer recently went back and tried to find the star of Bethlehem, as described in St. Matthew’s Gospel. And it was determined on June 17, 2 B.C., that there was a conjunction of Venus and Jupiter that would have appeared to be one bright beacon in the sky. So, tradition or not, Jesus was probably born on June 17, 2 B.C. Happy birthday!

Speed demons
I’m calling concerning the speeders out on Bishop Road. I’ve reported this before. The speed limit is 25 mph. And any time the cops want to come out here, they can catch people going about 60 or better. I just hope that something is done about it. It’s a residential neighborhood and somebody is going to get killed one of these days.

Parking woes
Before they start putting any money in Downtown, they’d better start figuring out the parking situation. I used to go to a dentist on Felix Street. I no longer go to that dentist because the last time I went, I parked in a two-hour zone. I had to wait an hour for my appointment and then, by the time I was done, three hours had passed. I came out and had not one ticket, but two on my windshield. When I called City Hall to complain, I still had to pay the ticket. Their response was, “Why didn’t you park in the parking garage?” Well, I am a handicapped person and the parking garage was too far for me to walk. Way to go, St. Joe.

Pennies saved
I would like to thank the lady who found my billfold at Perkins on Christmas Eve and also the Perkins employees who held my billfold until I came for it. God bless you all.
In my humble opinion there should NEVER be a parking ticket issued for overtime parking, IF the vehicle is parked legally, and has a State Handicap License. Plackards would NOT be included because they are meant to be for someone who is riding with another person, and if that's the case, drop the handicapped person off where they are going, then go park somewhere else. And if you are truely disabled, get a State license plate, there is NO extra charge for them. This may seem trivial, but that is EXACTLY why I don't do any business in the OLD downtown. There are sometimes circumstances when we can not get back to our vehicle in 2 hours. This has more to do with the lack of interest in Downtown St. Joe than you could possibly believe! C'Mon St. Joe, let's get a REAL Way To Go, and give the disabled citizens some incentive to shop downtown. And a couple of more stores may decide to occupy some of the Vacant properties, like maybe a nice Dime Store, like we remember!!
Steve-O
Steve-O...How 'bout re-opening the Pennant Cafeteria above that Dime Store? I still remember the good food and the black/white tile floor.
Things can be so simple sometimes. Good idea Steve-O. The city could easily implement a no ticketing policy for vehicles with handicap license plates and/or tags which would go a long way to making downtown a more attractive destination without adding anymore signs.
PS - I'd like some cheese and crackers with that whine please.
Speed Demons: You're right - these absurdly low speed limits on main arterial roadways is scary. Cook, Gene Field, Bishop, Woodbine. Rarely does one go 25mph, nor is 25mph a safe speed. The speed limits need to be reevaluated on these streets.
yes they do.
Big Whiners: Saint Joseph always is talking about keeping our dollars here, that was the main reason for building the shoppes and other retail with TIF money. Buy when the private sector decides to step in and help then its a problem. Also we need to start looking at the cheifs training camp not as a cost to our city but an opportunity to bring external dollars into our local economy. When Saint Joseph finds that not only keeping local, but bringing in other funds is the way to go then we will have a thriving downtown, mall and shoppes.
Matt64501,
Well said! I think that some folks just don't know that there is a world outside of St. Joseph and it would benefit the community to have people who do not live here come here and spend money to help grow the area economy.
