If you've been craving the lusty, deep tones of Johnny Cash, you'll have to look no further than Maryville.

The singer-songwriter, who died in 2003, will be honored with the musical review "Ring of Fire" at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 11, in the Northwest Missouri State University Performing Arts Center. The musical review features 12 performers and musicians. The review cast is touring across the country.

According to Anthony Brown, marketing representative with Northwest, the show recreates Cash's world of heartache, loss, faith, love and redemption through 38 legendary songs including, "A Thing Called Love," "Five Feet High and Rising," "Daddy Sang Bass," "Ring of Fire," "I Walk the Line," "I've Been Everywhere," "The Man in Black" and his final hit, "Hurt."

"I think this show will appeal to a very wide range of theater goers," Brown says. "His music remains hip and cool even now."

The musical review is part of Northwest's Encore/Distinguished Lecturer Series. This series brings big names and performing acts to Maryville, according to Brown.

"These are the same shows with the same actors, same performers and same musicians that play in Chicago and New York," he says.

Sarah Smith, graduate assistant with Northwest Student Activities, says she's excited about the review.

"I've been looking forward to it," she says. "It should be a really good show."

Smith says interested parties should get their tickets now. The good ones are going fast.

"We've had an excellent response," Smith says. "Last time we checked, ticket sales were higher than expected."

Tickets cost $25 for orchestra seats and $23 for balcony seats. Northwest student tickets are $20 and $18 respectively.
