Fire chief says his goodbyes

St. Joseph Fire Chief Jack Brown says not goodbye, but see ya later, to the St. Joseph Fire Department today.

Chief Brown spent his last day on the job the same way he started... making coffee visits to all the firefighters around town.

Many of the firefighters also gathered for a retirement party at the main fire station downtown.

Brown has worked for the St. Joe Fire Department for the last 38 years and chief for the last 7.

Brown says he hopes the firefighters remain a family and continue to treat one another with respect. Close friends of Brown say he was not only a good boss, but a great part of the department for all 38 years.

Brown says he plans to spend his retirement traveling and catching up on lost time with his family. but he says expect to continue to see him around and maybe even out at some fires.
