It’s called work
Well, well. Now we hear where people are abandoning their pets, dogs and cats because they can’t keep up feeding them because of inflation. Well, big deal. That’s a bunch of bologna. That’s not the first time that we’ve had inflation. And we had animals and we fed them. Anybody who would use that as an excuse wouldn’t even feed a kid. And what is wrong with them getting up and doing this thing called work? We pay our bills all the time and buy all the food and everything else we need. It’s a thing called work, you know.
Tip-top shape
I was just calling to say congratulations to the people who are keeping up the King Hill Cemetery. It looks so nice. I, for one, take care of my family’s burial plot up there myself. I go up once a week to mow, trim and take the broom. And I’ve seen that cemetery in better shape this year than I’ve seen it in a long time. And I just wanted to say thanks, guys, you’re doing an outstanding job. And I wish other people would take their lawn mowers up there and take care of their own, and that would help the cemetery out. I know it’s hard, but we’ve got to help them do something. Nice job, guys.
Public speaker
In reading “Off the cuff” Thursday, I have to tend to agree that there are good speakers and bad speakers. There are people with an education and people without. And sometimes people with a great education still can’t do great speaking. And if Obama can do public speaking, then I think that he needs to do some town-hall meetings face-to-face, off the cuff with Mr. McCain or any other candidate. The fact that he pushes away from that lets you know that if it isn’t written for him or someone isn’t doing his homework, then he just doesn’t know that answer.
Critical mass
Every day the St. Joseph News-Press talks about a four-day school week to get instruction. State agencies to discuss topic in August. There was a statement made by Lane Novinger, Buchanan County School District’s superintendent, that everybody is hitting the critical mass where the price of fuel is astronomical. We can cut our fuel costs by 20 percent by having a four-day school week. He also says that as stewards of finances of the district every superintendent and board should give it more consideration. And they’ve cut out field trips. They’ll never cut out athletics though, you could be sure of that.
Editor’s note: The News-Press hadn’t published a local four-day school week story in at least two years before it ran “Four-day school week gains traction” in Thursday’s edition.
What most news stories don't tell you is that Obama gave his speech right after a concert. Also, they don't mention that there was free beer and food. Anyone can hold a partisan audience under those conditions.
