It’s Oprah verses Carrie Bradshaw when it comes to summer sandals.
The “Sex and the City” character probably balances on more heels that the talk show queen, but whatever Oprah endorses turns to gold.
And Oprah loves her FitFlops.
“It’s one of Oprah’s big shoes,” says Tom Brager, owner of Brown’s Shoe Fit Company in St. Joseph.
The FitFlops, which are touted as the “flip-flop with the gym built in” recently made Oprah’s Top Picks for Summer list and, consequently, the shoes have been selling well locally, Mr. Brager says.
The FitFlops are touted as toning the legs, massaging the bum and giving you a workout as you walk.
If you want to channel a little Carrie Bradshaw, head to Payless ShoeSource and try on the new summer line from Patricia Field, stylist and costume designer for “Sex and the City.”
“It’s selling really well,” says Andrew James, assistant manager of Payless ShoeSource at the Shoppes at North Village.
Summer sandals, whether they carry a designer name or not, come in a style and color for everyone.
Mr. James says that wedges, espadrilles, ballet flats and flip-flops are just popular choices.
“As bright as you can get,” he says of the color.
Turquoise and other popping shades, as well as metallics, are popular choices. So, too, are patterns such as plaids and stripes, Mr. James says.
But don’t discount the earthy shades. Mr. Brager says the greens, browns and black are selling well.
Sandals can be found in everything from comfy flats to a variety of heel heights. But one of the most popular styles is a little number that in the past wasn’t even considered a sandal.
“Flip-flops have become a sandal,” Mr. Brager says.
And they’ve come a long way in comfort, he adds. Flip-flops also come in a rainbow of colors, everything from earthy shades to bright and bold, and with embellishments such as jewels and rhinestones.
And those Crocs that were so popular a few years ago? Well, you can still buy them, but if you really want to be in style, opt for the Crocs flip-flops.
You don’t need Oprah’s seal of approval or Carrie Bradshaw’s budget when it comes to summer shoes. All you have to do is slip into the sandal that defines your style.
