Many St. Joseph residents ditched their cars Thursday for a different mode of transportation. St. Joseph Transit offered free rides as part of Dump the Pump day. The purpose was to save money, conserve gas and help reduce greenhouse gases. City bus drivers said they noticed ridership nearly doubled Thursday afternoon. However, most riders were regulars who used the transit system daily. The free rides are still available until buses stop their routes at 9 p.m. Also, you can still pick up discounted monthly passes and ticketbooks for Thursday only.
