Good fences, make good neighbors
by Angela Smith
Wednesday, June 25, 2008

If you have the luxury of owning a pool you may be swimming against city ordinance. For many years, city officials have received numerous complaints of neighbors not putting up a security fence around their pool.

What many pool owners may not know is that it is a city ordinance to put a security fence for any pool more than two feet deep. The fence can be metal or a wooden privacy fence and must be at least four feet tall. Assistant City Planner Vicki Johnson said the ordinance is a safety measure the city implied to prevent tragedies.

If you would like more information you can contact the City Planning and Zoning Office at 271-4827 or visit the St. Joseph City website.
