Honor your favorite neighbor, Mr. Rogers
Thursday is Sweater Day, in honor of what would’ve been Mr. Rogers 80th birthday

“It’s a beautiful day in this neighborhood, a beautiful day for a neighbor, would you be mine, could you be mine ... won’t you be my neighbor?”

If you grew up anytime in the ’70s, ’80s or ’90s, chances are you recognize this tune, the opening for ‘Mr. Rogers’ Neighborhood.’ Like me, you probably watched in right after 'Sesame Street.' You remember Mr. Rogers coming in and greeting you so warmly, as he changed his shoes and put on his infamous cardigan.

Mr. Rogers is gone, but his legacy lives on. Family Communications Inc., the non-profit organization founded by Mr. Rogers in 1971, is asking you to celebrate Sweater Day this Thursday, March 20, on what would’ve been Mr. Rogers’ 80th birthday.

It doesn’t have to be a zippered cardigan like Mr. Rogers favored. It could be any sweater you want. Pull out the tacky Christmas sweater and revive a little holiday cheer. Borrow your co-worker’s favorite Cosby sweater (sadly I won’t be able to borrow Blake Hannon’s Cosby sweater, as I’m sure he’ll be wearing it).

Whatever the style of your sweater, put one on, and take a few minutes to remember everyone’s favorite neighbor.
