Historic day
We need to put this down in history: Wednesday, March 26, 2008. The front page of our newspaper didn’t have any bad news on it. Praise God! What a way to start the day. Let’s hope we have another one.
Don’t Tase me, bro
This is for the article in the paper today about the police using Tasers on nine suspects in the first month. It said that Patrol Commander Jim Connors said that if the officers didn’t have them they would have been in fights, confrontations and that the suspects would have been physically fighting them. And then as I read on two of the men got Tased in the back as they were fleeing from the cops. Now explain that to me. How are they going to fight the police officers when they were fleeing and got Tased in the back? It’s just another example of the police trying to overpower the working person.
Think big, Mark
Mark Sheehan was my favorite columnist. What a loss. However, Mark, there are better things ahead. We really will miss you. How about Mark Sheehan for president? Way to go.
Dog thief
Dog lovers beware of your dogs. There is a party out there who are taking other people’s dogs. I had my grandchildren’s dog taken right out of their front yard in Savannah. I hope you find this dog thief.
Lower the prices
It would seem to me with the price of gas and the way the economy is that if the government would make the gas companies lower the price of gas then maybe the people like us who are saving all of our money to put in our gas tank would probably take our money and put it back into the economy. But what do I know. I’m just a person who’s saving all of my money to put into my gas tank. Yeah, I think they should lower the price of gas.
Build it,
they won’t come
Sam Graves is right. We need the fence, the regular fence. We don’t need that virtual fence. That doesn’t even work. And they’ve already spent millions of dollars on it. I can’t understand where their ideas are. The only ones that want those illegals to come in are the druggies and the ones who are using the illegals to foul up our economy and get rid of the unions.
How can one honestly say "It's just another example of the police trying to overpower the working person" regarding the tasing incidents. Number one if the person were actually working I seriously doubt he would be running from the cops. Number two, obviously the person was where he was not supposed to be, doing something he was not supposed to be doing. How about if we stop whining about being targeted by "the man" and act like an upstanding and beneficial asset to society?! There's an idea for ya!
Posted by gocubbies on March 27, 2008 at 12:27 p.m. (Suggest removal)"Don't tase me bro", are you that blind to the obvious? They may have been tased in the back, for what reason? Because they were stopped by the police and were told specific instructions on what to do, which they did not follow. It's obvious the police already had the taser out and aiming it at the suspect when the person decided to run.
First, if people would start doing what they're supposed to be doing they would not be stoped by the police. Second, if you are doing something your not supposed to be doing and get caught, man up and take responsibilty for your actions and do what the police say, then maybe you won't get tased.
Everyone wonders why our kids are so messed up these days. It's because our adults want to ack like kids and take no responsibility for their actions. Stop being your kids friends. Be their parents and hold them accountable for their actions. We should go back to the good ol days and put a boot in their butts, maybe that would get their attention.

Posted by twix on March 27, 2008 at 2:30 p.m. (Suggest removal)all this is well and good, however knowing how some of the officers in this city and county act, a taser in their hand is an excuse to use it, whether warranted or not. no i am not a criminal, haven't been convicted of anything. only know that a percentage of officers have a power complex and dont want to reason with people or listen to their story they just want to flex the power that they are most assuredly granted, but abused. then there are the ones who automatically think a person is guilty if they contact an attorney.
Posted by rush620 on March 28, 2008 at 7:44 a.m. (Suggest removal)You know what Twix, I'm sure that there are some people with a power complex who are not in law enforcment. I have been stopped on multiple occasions for speeding, I didn't have my sticker things on ect, and there has been an occasion that I've had to go pick my child up from jail and speak to deputy's because of an altercation that yet another of my children was involved in and I can with great confidence tell you that I was treated with respect, law enforcement was very helpful and considerate. And I'm just a regular person off the street. I'm sure if your going to be punching a cop in the face, running from them, calling them names, they may not be quite as considerate to you. Perhaps you should check your own actions before you label our police officers with a "power complex". AND if you just don't like having to deal with the popo in St.Joe. then....... obey the laws.
Posted by lovingittogether on March 28, 2008 at 9:06 a.m. (Suggest removal)One thing I have always told my children is "No matter what, treat an officer with respect!" ...Even if they feel that the officer is acting with a control complex or power complex. Treat them with respect and WE will explore the issue later on when everyone has cooled off. It doesn't do any good to argue or mouth off to the officer in the heat of the moment.
I know that there may be some officers that can be buttheads but they WILL NOT taser someone if that person is following directions and listening to what the officer says.
All I can say is, I would much rather see an officer use a taser than a gun or billy stick!
