When young people ponder their place in the political universe, they inevitably turn to a bracelet that reads "WWSD."
What Would Syrus Do?
They can find out at Northwest Missouri State University Monday night when the Bust The Ballot caravan rolls into Maryville. Syrus Yarbrough and Robin Hibbard, former cast members of MTV's "The Real World," will be in town with a "non-partisan program that promotes the importance of voting and letting your voice be heard."
The event begin at 8:30 p.m. at the Charles Johnson Theatre on the Northwest campus. It is part of Northwest Week 2008. It is free and open to the public.
According to promotional materials: "Bust the Ballot mobilizes young people to create positive social and political change in their lives and communities. The goal of Bust the Ballot’s Media Campaign and Street Team Activities is to increase your youth voter turnout."
Ms. Hibbard was featured in the San Diego season of "The Real World." Her MTV biography describes her as a "spunky" Coyote Ugly dancer. The description continues: "Underneath this wild party girl that everybody knows, there is a genuine person who helps people break out of their own shells."
Mr. Yarbrough participated in "The Real World: Boston." His myspace.com page says, "His way of life embraces harmonious coexistence between all social and cultural groups and living for the moment."
