Can't-miss article in Esquire on Obama and America
by Joe Blumberg
Thursday, May 8, 2008

The cynic asks: Can a hopeful guy like Barack Obama succeed, or is America too far gone? That's the crux of the cover story in the new Esquire magazine.

My humble advice: Just read it.

My bold advice: If you're an American male between the ages of 18 and 65, subscribe to the magazine. (The picture on page 48 alone is probably worth the investment.)

My quick take on the article: The writer, Charles P. Pierce, writes as "the cynic," which frees him to take a bare-fisted view of America. Some of it made me vomit in my mouth a little bit. Some made me angry. Some made me hopeful. Some made me doubtful.

At the very least, the article was a nice summary of Obama's campaign run for the last four months (Man, wouldn't it be nice to be able to cover a subject for four months?). At most, it was one of the best-written commentaries on America I've read in a while.
