Two wrongs don’t make a right

“Back at you,” I’m sorry that people keep trashing your yard. I have sacks and different debris in my yard all the time, too. It blows from I don’t know where. The people who throw it don’t throw it right into my yard, but they don’t throw it out. And it ends up into my yard or my neighbor’s yard. But I’m not going to go and throw it into someone else’s yard. Two wrongs don’t make it right. Were you ever taught that? And you probably have children who learn from you. All you can do is control yourself and make yourself a better person. And know at the end of the day that when you lay your head down to rest you’ve done everything possible to make this world a better place.

Following the funds

I, too, have asked several times where the money goes on the fines that are collected in the local courts. It seems to me that there are a couple of million dollars each year collected in the municipal court. No one seems to want to tell us where this goes. Mr. Mayor, what about you?

Editor’s note: According to the city’s finance department, fines for animal control issues go directly to the health department, and parking fines go directly to the parking fund. All other fines go to the general fund and are divided between various operations. The largest portions go to help fund police patrols and municipal court operations.

Not horsing around

Well, here it is another morning now. I’m an 85-year-old widow who lives on King Hill. And after I go to bed, I don’t know when it happens, but it happens. When I get up the next morning, there’s been a horse that’s been led down right on King Hill Avenue on my sidewalks to deposit whatever it wants to deposit. And it does deposit! I cannot bend over because I’ve had back surgery. Isn’t it against the law for someone to bring a horse down a sidewalk so it can make a mess on somebody’s sidewalk? I can’t do a thing about it.

Mad at dads

I want to make a comment about these dads who walk off and leave the wife and the children and don’t pay a dime. The women work because they don’t get welfare. And because divorces cost so much, their hands are tied and they can’t get any kind of divorce and get a settlement where the dads pay. I think it’s ridiculous that they leave women in this situation. What they do is they penalize these women for working and trying to make it.

Scared on Alabama

I am glad that “It’s your call” column is around here for us citizens here in St. Joseph to call and comment. First of all, I am a local South Side resident. I have lived here all of my life. These gangs are just getting out of hand. You should get the TV station to investigate. I, as a concerned citizen of South St. Joseph, cannot drive up Alabama because I’m scared of getting a rock thrown at my car. And it’s just terrible. I don’t want to have to pay the higher insurance premiums. I love your column. I feel better now that I’ve got to vent.
