USA 800 wants to fill its building.
The call center is looking to hire 150 people immediately. Another 300 likely will be added later this year.
“We’re very excited about expanding into St. Joe because of the employees we get and the level of commitment they’ve shown to serving customers,” said Tom Davis, president and chief executive officer of USA 800.
The facility primarily handles inbound calls for catalog orders, cell phones companies and travel and tourism boards. About 240 people currently work at the call center, which operates around the clock, 365 days of the year.
“We’re always looking to find good, qualified candidates with the right motivation,” said Chief Financial Officer Greg Quigley.
Both full-time and part-time jobs are available. The starting wage ranges from $7.50 to $9 an hour. Employees also earn incentives and after a year of employment become eligible to own shares of stock.
“It’s our front-line employees that makes a difference. It’s great that they can share in the rewards,” Mr. Quigley said.
Workers include those who are making a career and students and workers with second jobs earning supplemental income, he said.
The call center more than doubled the size of its facility in Mitchell Woods Business Park with an addition completed nearly a year ago. Most of the new space has remained empty, but Mr. Davis said excess capacity was built on purpose.
Recently, USA 800 secured contracts for four additional companies and wants to add workers as soon as possible. In a tight economy, businesses are looking for ways to save money and some have decided to outsource call center work, Mr. Quigley said.
USA 800 expects to have double-digit growth this year. The company also has facilities in Raytown, Mo., and Halstead, Kan.
The expansion should be good news to workers hampered by a slow job market and inflation.
“There is work out there. Come join us, come see what we have to offer,” Mr. Quigley said.
Potential employees can apply online or at USA 800 at 5804 Corporate Drive.
