PLATTSBURG, Mo. — No new activity developed Friday in the court case of a Clinton County man accused of murder that stemmed from an October bar fight.
Kyle William Musser, a 24-year-old Gower, Mo., resident, is charged with second-degree murder in connection with the death of 33-year-old Kurt M. Brinton, also of Gower. Both men allegedly argued and fought the evening of Oct. 18 at Katie’s Pub in downtown Gower. The Missouri Division of Alcohol and Tobacco Control shut down the bar in February for violations linked to the dispute.
Clinton County Prosecutor Bill Burris and George Pickett, Mr. Musser’s attorney, both told Circuit Judge Stephen Griffin they needed more time to confer with their co-counsels in the case. Mr. Griffin ordered Mr. Musser — who appeared and remains free on bond — to return to court June 6.
Mr. Musser had earlier posted a required $25,000 cash percentage bond of a reduced $250,000 bond prior to his release. As conditions of the release, he must not be present in the city of Gower unless approved by the court. He must also agree to court-ordered supervision. He was freed from custody March 14 after a three-hour preliminary hearing.
Mr. Brinton was pronounced dead early the morning after the fight.
Several witnesses at the preliminary hearing said they observed the dispute. The disagreement began when both men offered different opinions over a mutual acquaintance’s relationship issues.
Witnesses also said it was not uncommon for patrons of Katie’s Pub to settle problems by fighting outside the business.
