It's your call, May 13, 2008

Just a warning

“Running radar,” I appreciate your concern, but police departments wouldn’t just put radar guns in untrained persons’ hands. The comments called in to the paper are just baffling. Instead of being all for it, there are people against it. I’m sure you’ve done your homework about the cases thrown out of court. The city isn’t worried about that. They’re going to send warnings to these people, they aren’t going to give them tickets for radar shot by citizens. But by the amount of warnings, they’ll know what areas to police and then they will give tickets. Just slow down and you don’t have to worry about it.

Bring it on

This is the way I see this presidential race: We are still trying to convert foreign nations to become a democratic nation to get rid of the bullies. Guess what? United States politics are heading the way of a lot of foreign countries. There have already been threats that if a certain candidate does not win there will be cities burning, killing and chaos in the United States. This has many people scared. Hopefully people will wake up and tell the threateners to bring it on.

Every drop counts

I just filled my gas tank on my truck. And I wonder if anybody else has noticed that the gas pumps starts registering way before the gas starts flowing. I say way before because I think I had 80 cents on the pump before the gas started flowing in the tank. Now that might not sound like much, but think of every vehicle that goes through that very station. Think of every vehicle that goes through every station in this country and wonder 80 cents, 20 cents, whatever. How much money are these people ripping us off for when the price of gas is outrageous anyway?

Editor’s note: The Missouri Division of Weights and Measures is responsible for checking the accuracy of gasoline pumps. Call (573) 751-4316 if you have concerns.

Socialist computers

Beware, Big Brother is watching you. Privacy is fading away. Computers know your credit card balance, birthplace and present address. Crime prevention cameras observe you as you shop and gamble. Should neighbors be filming neighbors as they drive or whatever? Support individual freedom — not socialism.

Debris dust-up

After the latest wind storms, I now again have a yard full of debris from the leftover ice storm. And I have noticed that down on 28th Street they still haven’t cleaned up the big mess, but yet it’s blocked off. I am still curious, will the city allow us to bring these limbs down there since they’re from the ice storm or are we responsible for them? Some of my limbs are more than 20-feet long. It’s just a question, and I wondered if anybody knew the answer.

Editor’s note: The contractor hired by the city to remove the ice storm debris has completed its work on residential streets. It is working to get the debris removed from the collection site. The contractor is not responsible for debris from recent storms.

The contractor did a VERY poor job, 3 people on my street, including myself watched them load ONLY what could be mechanically loaded! I would bet you that without exageration, they left a pickup truck FULL of debris at our 3 houses put together. Also, My Daughter lives 2 blocks away, and they only picked up 3/4 of her limbs. I am serious, and their trucks were nowhere near full. The City needs to take a survey to see how many stories there are just like this one. I will conservatively say that City Wide, they only picked up 75% of the debris, Did We withhold 25% of the contract price? You guys seriously got screwed by an amateur contractor,,,well we ALL did!

There are still spots that the contractor never did pick up limbs. Where I work on 36th Street there are 2-3 businesses in a row that have not had any limbs picked up and they have been laying there on the edge of the street for months now. Cut to size and stacked and everthing. What about these?
