Too poor to vote
Republicans know two facts: The poor are most likely not to be able to afford a state photo ID, and that most of the poor vote Democrat. That is why they are pushing hard halfway through an election year to require such an ID to vote.

All the Bush administration has been saying about Iran sending military hardware to help the insurgents in Iraq has been proved to be false. A general was saying that they had this and they had that and they had everything else and that they can prove that came from Iran. It’s now been proven by the U.S. government that it was not so. The president and Vice President Cheney were lying about that, and they had a general to go along with them. You do realize that Senator McCain is going to back up what Bush is doing. Senator McCain has been saying all along that Iran has been doing similar things in Iraq. He sounds like a copy of President Bush. You know, when they both get on TV and yack, yack, yack. McCain and the Republicans do not deserve another four years in the White House.

I would like to make a comment on property evaluations and raising the property taxes. I am all for having the new schools or anything that would help, but your average person is just taxed to death. A lot of the people who were for these property tax raises do not have to pay property taxes. Look at how many people in this town don’t own their homes. They live in apartments and they don’t have to worry about it. Plus, a lot of those people are on some type of public assistance. And while I’m at it, here’s another comment: I’m more than glad for anybody to come to this country and get a job and start up a business, but I have a real problem. You go down certain areas and the storefront is nothing but Spanish. This is America. It should read English first and then Spanish.
Random acts of roses
Random acts of kindness. On Monday I was on a retail store parking lot when a couple in a van pulled up to me and handed me a beautiful yellow rose and wished me a happy belated Mother’s Day. This act of kindness was such a blessing to me that I have challenged the ladies of our church to bless someone with a random act of kindness before our next monthly meeting. I just wanted to thank the thoughtful couple who gave me the rose, whoever they are. They are precious, and our city would be a much better place if there were more people like them who would take time to be kind.

Property Tax is a sore spot with me, you work for years and finally get your Home paid off and Guess What,,, you get to RENT it back from the Government up until the Very Day that your Birth Certificate Expires! If you want a more fair way of taxing people, raise the sales tax to 15%. Do away with ALL Real Estate Taxes, and Personal Property Taxes. Then there would be NO NEED for a County Collector or That office and I wonder how much THAT would save? It would be SO simple. Let the County hire a couple of CPA's to set at the Deputy Collectors office, and oversee the split up of the sales tax, since the Deputy Collector does that anyway, we would only need someone to oversee the split. And the added bonus is, with no County Collector, we wouldn't need an assessor, OR his office either, TWO offices CLOSED,, SAVINGS,,, A LOT ! And WHO ever made us pay SALES tax on USED Vehicles,, That's WAY out of line, the original purchaser of the car paid the sales tax and it should NEVER be owed again. If a 20 yr old car changes hands 15 times, there has been more SALES tax on that vehicle than the original purchase price. Something just DON'T seem right about that!! I think it is about time WE THE PEOPLE do something about these RIP OFF's, if we tried some of this stuff, we would be put in jail. I DO know that we need most of the public servants, Police, Fire, etc. but we don't need to BLEED people dry to have them, However, we DO NOT need any extra offices full of people shuffling paperwork when there is a PLAIN, SIMPLE, and CHEAPER way of obtaining the SAME result. How many people would rather pay $15.00 sales tax on $100.00 worth of groceries, than $600.00+ for property taxes, Ironically Due at Christmas Time, and ALL AT ONCE? If they DID have to have it this way, then WHY is there not an installment plan? Pay a little monthly, or quarterly? I'll explain it to you,,,, THEN it would be to easy for people to pay them Therefore they couldn't charge you those astronomical PENALTIES, Charging to much interest is not Legal, so we re-name it Penalty. Look at it like this, they say Well I see you can not afford to pay your taxes, so we will add on more, now THAT makes sense don't it. My Grand-Father said it best," You can not borrow money from the Bank ubless you can PROVE to them that you don't really need it" !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 2.3% raise INDEED !

Too poor to vote: I'm sure both parties would agree that a new ID would benefit the entire nation. The ID will ensure that those who are here LEGALLY would have their voice heard in elections, instead of having the election swayed by the interests of those who aren't here legally. I know that here in St Joe you have yet to be touched by the mass influx of immigrants who will come and take over your city. I have heard many complaints about Triumph Foods bringing in hispanics to work in their plant. Let me tell you, this is not isolated to Truimph Foods! These folks will eventually come in droves and put a strain on your health and school systems. Any public benefit will be drained dry (including Second Harvest). These illegal immigrants will vote. They will find a way to get in there and vote for things that will benefit them at a cost to you! They know that America will give them FREE benefits! A real ID will ensure that YOU can keep getting legitimate benefits without having to compete with illegals to get them!
Because an ID is too expensive (less than $20) is NOT a valid reason to oppose this idea.
Sunny13, you miss the point. The illegal immigrants will get the new ID too. They will find a way just like they have found a way to get SS cards and all other benefits you are supposed to be legal to get. This won't stop it, it will just cost more. Which by the way is illegal. They can't charge us in any way to vote, even if it is charging us to have a special ID in order to be able to do so. Guarantee me that NOT A CENT of taxpayer money will be used for this ID and that I will pay NOT A CENT to get it and I'll go get one tomorrow. And by not using taxpayer money I don't mean use money slated for something else and then make us pay taxes to make up that. Where do you propose the finances come from to pay for this ID?
Why do we vote anyway? The delegates and super-delegates are the ones who decide who will be in office !! And
If they have to have an ID, I'm sure they don't have to pay for it.
I'm with you Sunny13, these illegal intruders will ruin our quality of living here in St.Joseph. If you drive down to Patee hall right now you will see them lined up to collect benifits we the tax payers provide for law abiding citizens.
Before anyone blames me for being racist for this view, I'll let you know I don't care what their country of origin, skin color or about anything other than their legal status in our country. My wife immigrated to this country legaly and we jumped through every hoop to obtain her citizenship here the correct way. It's time for our city to tell these freeloading opportunist to pack up and head home.
