It's your call, May 16, 2008

White rage

I just finished reading the “Bring it on” comments in the paper, and I think they have it all wrong. Even though there are a lot of quotes by angry white men, I don’t think they will follow through with threats to burn and kill when their candidate loses. Oh, by the way, this call is as wrong as their call.

Motorin’

I’m calling about Trails West! I know it’s not until August and I’m totally jumping the gun. I swear it gets worse and worse every year. It’s just whomever they can grab. I guess it depends on who needs the money the worst. They never get any top names, just people who are has-beens or will-bes. I think they should have a general thing where they can ask the people who they would like to hear or at least get our suggestions. I know they can’t afford big names, but there are still some very, very good old ones out there who can still play and sing until their hearts are content instead of getting these super young ones, where us older people are scratching our heads and saying, “Who are you? And you sing what song? Never heard of you.”

Cold as ice

The Interior Department declared the polar bear a threatened species due to the Arctic sea ice. But apparently President Bush doesn’t want that to be used. He said it would be wholly inappropriate to use the protection of the bear to reduce greenhouse gases or to broadly address climate change. The endangered species act is not the right tool to set climate policies, reflecting a view expressed by President Bush. I would say, “Hey, George. Why not the polar bear? We need all the help we can get for people to notice this.”

Taxing the taxed

Very interesting. I see the city of St. Joseph is going to run some kind of senior citizens tax. They are going to put $19 on a $100,000 house, additional taxes to help seniors out with things like fixing the paint up. Well, that’s not going to work, because the people who are going to have to pay the taxes are the same people that need the paint. Drop the taxes down where we can afford to pay them and spend a little money keeping our place up. You wouldn’t have do give anybody anything. We’d have our own money to do it with. I’ve never heard of such a thing.

Editor’s note: It’s the county that’s proposing this tax.

Flag-waving

Why would anybody in their right mind vote for a presidential candidate who will not salute the American flag, who will not wear an American flag pin on his lapel, who runs around with the types of Rev. Jeremiah Wright and William Ayers, the 1970s terrorist. It looks to me like he’s keeping bad company. And he doesn’t care about his country. And I wouldn’t vote for him for all the tea in China. You people better stop and think about what you’re doing.

Get in now

I think it’s a good time to invest in companies that make signs, because when gas hits $10 a gallon soon, there’s only space for three numbers on service station signs. There will be a staggering number of signs that need to be replaced.

Re "Get In Now": One other possibility is that we'll have to start buying our gasoline by the liter so as to keep the gas station signs unchanged a little while longer. Sheesh.

re. get in now:
I have a Better Idea,, Why don't we STOP buying Gasoline
until they only need a 2 digit sign? Let the sign makers
find another line of work !!

I LOVE St. Joseph, someone ask me the other day if I have lived in St. Joseph, All my life,,, and I said NOT YET !!
Now seriously, Why do we buy Gasoline from Stations who sell Middle Eastern Petroleum Products? ANSWER: because we have no idea where most of the convienant stores GET their Gasoline. NOW be Informed that ALL of the BP stations in St. Joseph, MO. Don't sell any Arab Oil. The Arabs are boycotting ALL American products, so Why do we even THINK about buying their products. Why don't we require that ALL gasoline retail outlets CLEARLY state at the pumps, Where this product is produced. It Looks Like they would have MUCH more business if they had a BIG sign out front Stating
NO ARAB OIL SOLD HERE! My take on the situation is, The Americans can either EAT our grains, or Make FUEL from them! What else can the Arabs do with their Oil?
And did you know that the United States Military in Iraq, pays around the same price for Gasoline that we do here at home,, But the Iraqi people pay around $1.25 per gallon for Gasoline, What's WRONG with that picture? And the people in Hugo Chavez's country pay $0.13 per gallon for Gasoline.
If You buy Gasoline from ANY CITGO station, you are PAYING Hugo Chavez, a evil dictator who wants ALL Americans DEAD !
YES, I'm going to say it, That means 7-11 stores, and Kwik Pantry stores. For right NOW,,, let's ALL buy our Gasoline from our Local BP stations until the Other Stations put out signs as to WHERE their Gasoline and Oil come from !!!
GOD BLESS AMERICA !!!!!!!!!

Just a little tidbit on Chavez.......when Joe Kennedy started his project of giving heating oil to the 'needy' so they wouldn't freeze or have to make choices between heat or food and medicine, he went to the 'Big 10' oil companies and asked if they could help with the project. Not one American company stepped forward.......Chavez (Citgo) stepped up to the plate and has been donating oil to keep Americans warm.

whetta2,
Thanks for the insight on what a wonderful, giving man Hugo Chavez is. The fact that he wants to "extinquish" America makes me feel even more warm and fuzzy toward him. I'm sure he has some alterior motive behind his kindness. Don't be surprised if you start seeing people dropping like flies after heating their homes with his oil. As for the "Big 10" oil companies, we already know they are a bunch of flea bags(since we can't cuss on here, that is the best I could come up with for them).

To gr8fan.....not trying to sway your opinion of Chavez, or anyone else for that matter. Just pointing out that for the past few years there are some Americans that are pretty darn grateful to Chavez. It's pretty sad when America won't help Americans but the Government will spend oodles of money to help other countries. As for the oil....it's a speculative market...and the stockholders are speculating that we will pay whatever it takes to fill our cars....we may whine about it...but we will pay. While we are whining and paying, the government will continue to throw our tax dollars to the oil companies and car manufacturers to "finance their finding alternatives to this crisis". Kind of like asking the fox to guard the henhouse. I find it a little suspicious when it's announced that stockholders in the oil companies are showing record profits. It's not just about the oil...it's all about $$$$ and how the rich can stay rich and us working folks can foot the bill. I could go on, but I won't....because it won't change a thing.....this has turned into such a ME society, that most people can't see past their nose.
