San Francisco values
The recent, overly offensive political advertisement approved by Sam Graves is definitely disturbing. It is disturbing that he would stoop to such a childish, hate-mongering level. The piece of propaganda is insulting to good, law-abiding people everywhere, and anyone from San Francisco should be left wondering about what sort of discriminatory beliefs Missourians hold about them. I believe in a sense of “fair-and-square” in political campaigns, and Mr. Graves’ ad embraced the “square” side of things but forgot all about the “fair.” I would like to ask the rational-minded citizens of this state to please remember to keep these political battles to a friendly, civil level so that we do not permanently damage the delicate relationship between conservatives and liberals. As much as we all may disagree at times, we must learn to live with each other. Speaking as a liberal to liberals abroad, I ask that you remember that we can win the hearts of people through acts of kindness and tolerance. These acts will bring people closer together rather than drive them apart.
Tom Burnett
St. Joseph
i also think mr. graves advertisement is not only offensive to voters, but possibly the most ridiculous political pandering i have ever seen. i am a republican, and a social liberal. i will be voting democrat for the first time in my life in this election.

Unfortunately, Mr. Graves is starting early with the same dirty campaign tactics he seems to use against every opponent he faces. (Remember his last opponent posed in Penthouse). Guess he thinks he cannot win if he plays fair. Dare I say "short man's syndrome???" The sad thing is people keep electing him.

I don't think that I would admit to being a liberal.
Isn't the definition of a liberal "a rebellious teenager that never grew up"?

Posted by gr8fan on May 19, 2008 at 6:21 p.m. (Suggest removal)It's time to take the blinders off people. Has no one heard the mud-slinging commercials that St. Joseph's own, Kay Barnes has out. Its going to be a knock-down drag-out between these two. Once again, the liberals can only see one side of the race as slimy.

I guess if you call a stay at home Mom of 30 years who has a son who works for NASA in Houston helping to design the next generation space exploration vehicle, a son who works as the head of publications at a college in New York City, and a son who in majoring in Marine Biology at Texas A and M a rebellious teenager who never grew up because I am a liberal, makes me wonder if you grew up living under a rock.
As a proud liberal who has raised three proud liberal children who are helping to make America a better world I can't imagine what you are talking about. My children were raised to make the world a better place for your children to live in.
My kids don't see colors, or genders or sexual orientation.
They were raised to see people as Americans.
Each one of my kids is working toward preserving mankind's control of our planet. whether it be though inhabitation of another planet or through education or the control of global warming to protect our marine animals that will also protect our planet.
Please let me know what your non-liberal ideals that you have taught your children are doing to help our planet and America?
Posted by scrubnurse on May 20, 2008 at 3:31 p.m. (Suggest removal)gr8......The only commercial I've heard from Kay Barnes was one commenting on Graves' voting record pertaining to tax cuts for the oil companies. If I've missed one that was not factual, and was personally attacking Mr. Graves (as his commercial was on her), then excuse me. But as I stated before, Graves has personally attacked every opponent he has faced and since it has seemed to work for him, maybe it is time to fight fire with fire!!

Ginger, as a conservative I am teaching my children that all life is precious including the unborn and the elderly. I'm teaching them that the family unit is the bond that keeps our society together and that the family unit should include a father and a mother. I'm teaching them that public service and military service are honorable traditions and protecting our country from foreign invaders with a strong military is paramount to a lasting peace. I'm teaching them that their religious faith is important, but it's even more important to appreciate that others do not believe what we believe and we should be tolerant of different viewpoints. And many other things...
As you can read, many of these teachings are non-Liberal in nature. I believe they are helping our planet and our country. I'm sure your children are fine people and I applaud that you brought them into this world. I'm glad they see everyone as equals. I assume they see conservatives as equals as well?
