Though GOP members of Congress have some jitters about the national outlook for the U.S. House, the Republican incumbent in Missouri's 6th District seems to be comfortable in his seat so far.
A SurveyUSA poll done for KCTV-TV in Kansas City shows Rep. Sam Graves ahead of Democratic challenger Kay Barnes by a 49 percent to 39 percent margin.
The survey was released Tuesday.
The national polling organization interviewed 900 people from the district, with 796 identified as registered voters and 547 seen as likely to vote in the November election. The margin of error was plus or minus 4.3 percent.
The question asked was: If the election for U.S. House of Representatives, were today, would you vote for ... Republican Sam Graves? Democrat Kay Barnes? Or some other candidate? The names of the candidates were rotated throughout the polling.
Respondents picked other candidates 8 percent of the time, while 5 percent called themselves undecided.
The survey results showed a significant gender split. Mr. Graves held a 19-point advantage among male voters, while the two tied among females. The incumbent also held leads among all age groups.
Among respondents around Kansas City, where Ms. Barnes served eight years as mayor, she was favored 44 to 43 percent. In St. Joseph, where the Democrat grew up, she trailed by 52 to 33 percent.
Elsewhere in the district, those responding favored Mr. Graves 61 to 28 percent.
