If you’ve ever been to Charlemagne’s in Weston, Mo. you know it’s also the site of the National Silk Art Museum, a collection of more than 150 rare French silk tapestries belonging to Charlemagne’s owner, John Pottie.
Pottie has accumulated possibly the largest collection in the world. It’s a great fit for the European atmosphere of the restaurant which was named after Pottie’s ancestor, the medieval king Charlegmagne. But up until three months ago, there just wasn’t much room for it.
Now, with Charlemagne’s located in the St. George Hotel in Weston, there is. The elegant, 26 room hotel draws military and business people during the week, then visitors up for a weekend of shopping on Saturdays and Sundays.
The restaurant and bar take up the bottom floor. It is fully functioning, although they are still working on some renovations, including space for all the silk art, a library, adding white marble floors, a gift shop and an antique photo exhibit. They also have a new chef -- Jonathan Phillips, who is in the process of expanding their evening menu.
The menu features German, Italian, French and Spanish specialities, such as a German Snitzel sandwich served with a giant potato pancake and sauerkraut, Spanish Paella, lasagna, and steak au poive.
Lunch is served from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and dinner is 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday. On Sunday, they serve a brunch from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Reservations are accepted.
