Whither the candidates? While the large cities and the southern reaches of the state have gotten attention from presidential hopefuls of both parties, they’ve mostly missed the scenery north of the I-70 corridor.
David Plouffe, campaign manager for Barack Obama, told the News-Press the Democratic presidential and vice presidential candidates would be seen again in Missouri.
“I think you’ll see our ticket up in that corner of the state and all throughout the state,” he said in a phone interview from St. Louis shortly before the vice presidential debate Thursday.
Only a couple of weeks ago, Missouri Republicans hinted the Obama campaign would be pulling resources from the state, conceding the 11 electoral votes to GOP nominee John McCain.
Shifting polls, however, now find Missouri back in play for the Obama forces. Mr. Plouffe offered his theory.
“If you’re a middle-class family struggling out there,” he said, “John McCain is simply going to offer you more of the same Bush economic policy.”
