The cause of a Tuesday barn fire remains undetermined. A three-year-old metal barn filled with hay and farm equipment erupted in flames about 9:30 a.m. Tuesday near Vincent Halter’s home, 4202 Riverside Terrace.
The building was a total loss valued at an estimated $50,000 and $3,000 for the contents, said Jason Ziph, a fire inspector with the St. Joseph Fire Department. The building burned through the night into Wednesday before it was completely out, Mr. Ziph said.
Because there was no adequate water source, the department had to let the building burn.
Firemen worked Tuesday to ensure the flames didn’t spread to other structures on the property, said John Nelson, a battalion chief with the Fire Department.
