Snorkel to shut down temporarily
Over 300 workers affected
by Angela Smith
Tuesday, October 7, 2008

Snorkel International announced Tuesday, it will temporarily shut down the Elwood assembly facility.

A press release from Snorkel's parent company, Tanfield Group, says it will shut down for one week from October 27th through November third. A company spokesman says they want to safeguard their business during the times of economic instability. He says the shut down will only affect production and will not impact Snorkel customers.

According to Dan Jenkins, spokesman for Tanfield, the temporary shutdown only affects production and will not have an impact on Snorkel customers,” he said. “It will be business as usual for our customer care team and sales force during this period.”

The company laid off 100 workers in September, all on the production line. Snorkel currently employs about 350 people.

Locally, the company manufactures and assembles commercial aerial lift platforms at the Elwood plant.
