Brain Injury Association plans Halloween festivities
The Northwest Missouri Brain Injury Association will hold its Halloween meeting at 6 p.m. Oct. 16 at Midland Empire Resources for Independent Living (MERIL), 4420 S. 40th St. Come in costume and bring a side dish or a desert. Goblins will serve “spooky” joes and “bonetato” chips. A prize will be given for the best costume, and a short meeting will follow. For more information, call 279-8558 ext. 1002.
Benefit will raise money for insulin pump
A pancake breakfast and a lunch Nov. 15 at the Andrew County Senior Center, 101 S. Fourth St. in Savannah, will raise money for an insulin pump for Alexis Walker, a 7-year-old St. Joseph girl with type 1 diabetes. Funds raised will help offset the $4,000 to $7,000 cost her family faces for the pump and supplies.
Breakfast will begin at 2:30 a.m. to accommodate any hunters who would like to come, and lunch will be served until 2:30 p.m. In addition, a rifle will be raffled off, and raffle tickets can be purchased for $5. For more information, call Deb Walker at 351-9280.
Women’s Health Seminar set
Community Hospital-Fairfax will host a Women’s Health Seminar beginning at 9 a.m. Nov. 1 at First Baptist Church, U.S. Highway 59 in Tarkio, Mo. The theme of the seminar will be “celebrating generations of healthy women,” and speakers will focus on topics such as “healthy heart awareness” and “ages and stages of a healthy woman.”
Lunch will be provided by Fairfax Catholic Church, and a fashion show will follow. In addition, a photographer will be available to take generation family photos. Prizes will be awarded to the largest group of generations, and door prizes also will be drawn. Child care will be provided.

Concert marks breast center completion
In celebration of the completion of the new breast center at Heartland Regional Medical Center, St. Joseph Community Chorus (SJCC) will perform Joseph M. Martin’s “Sing for the Cure.” The fall concert, “Songs of Hope and Healing” will be begin at 3 p.m. Oct. 26 in the sanctuary of Wyatt Park Baptist Church, 2902 N. Leonard Road. Proceeds from the concert and a silent auction will benefit the new breast center and the Susan G. Komen Foundation.
Sing for the Cure was commissioned in 2000 by The Women’s Chorus of Dallas and The Turtle Creek Chorale for the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.
Tickets are available in the Sunshine Corner gift shop, Heartland Regional Medical Center east wing, 5325 Faraon St. Ticket prices are $12 for adults, $10 for seniors and $5 for students.

Heartland Complementary and Integrative Medicine will sponsor the following presentations, designed to help you live a healthier life, naturally: Environmental Toxins and Health, noon to 1 p.m. Oct. 16 at East Hills Library, presented by Diane Waddell, FNP; Benefits of Heart Coherence and Respiratory Self-Regulation, 9 to 11 a.m. Nov. 15 at Heartland Regional Medical Center, east wing, Oak rooms I and II, presented by Fred Shafer, PhD; and Healing Music Concert, 5 to 7 p.m. Dec. 5 at Albrecht-Kemper Museum of Art, presented by Janalea Hoffman, music therapist.

Heartland to sponsor baby fair
The Heartland Regional Medical Center maternity department will sponsor the New Beginnings Baby Fair from noon to 2 p.m. Oct. 18 in Oak rooms I and II at Heartland. The fair will be a showcase of community resources available to growing families. More than 20 vendors will be on site to show the latest in products and services for infants and young children. Refreshments will be provided, and admission is free.
