Bird blocks

We're bird lovers, as I'm sure a lot of folks are. And we were wondering if any store in town has the wild bird blocks to sell any more. They were wonderful to put out. And we older people didn't have to get out every day and risk fall.

More than abortion

I am a white American Catholic, and I am against abortion. I also am for the rights of the poor and the many elderly who cannot afford food and medication. I also am for the poor and the homeless and disabled and so many other people who cannot afford so many, many things. Therefore, I am voting for Obama.

Don't give up, Republicans

A caller wanted to know why we should go to the polls and vote with all this voter fraud the Democrats have out there. Well, I'll tell you why: Make them really work to get this election. Don't hand it to them. Republicans, let's go down fighting and not throw in the towel. Make those big stars out there have to put up big bucks to get those votes.

Look for yourself

I would just like to say that I read the article in the paper today about Mr. Hausman and Ms. Haertling. I don't know what kind of engineering degree Mr. Hausman has, but the road that I live on - and I live out east of town - it's in worse shape than it's ever been in. And I think that before people go to the polls, they ought to come out to the county and see what kind of job Mr. Hausman is doing.

Kool-Aid confusion

When I saw the cartoon in Tuesday's News-Press depicting Colin Powell drinking Kool-Aid, it could have overtones of racism. I hope that printed expressions that flirt with stereotyping our citizens don't hurt someone's feelings or actions. What's next, watermelon or bratwurst and sauerkraut? The artist may have overstepped his bounds.

Editor's note: While this alternative still could be found offensive, "drinking the Kool-Aid" is a phrase associated with the mass suicide at Jonestown, where followers of Jim Jones ingested the drink laced with cyanide. So in this cartoon, we believe the artist wasn't meaning to be racist. By having Colin Powell accept the Kool-Aid from Barack Obama, the artist implied Mr. Powell is going along with what the rest of society is pressuring him to do.

How do you equate drinking Kool-aid with racism? Some folks are really reaching! Thank you editor for at least trying to help.

I canceled my subscription to the Kansas City Star years ago. They've been very looney since they took a hard left and went even more liberal.

Which democrat was it that said "If you can't convince them, confuse them"? Oh yes...Harry Truman.

It certainly works with today's crop of democrats.

Ninja,
If McCain loses, we all lose. I'm just sorry you are so drunk off the media koolaid that you can't see where we are heading. The government was set up with checks and balances when it was first aligned. Having a democratic house, senate and president were not the principles that our founding fathers had in mind. And I'm sick of the whiny racism calls from the liberals. The most racist activities in the whole election are Acorn and the endorsement of Obama by a right wing Powell. Powell has only one reason to endorse Obama based on his past believes and even said he thinks that having a black president will get rid of alot of the stigmas of not ever having one. Racism is an ugly thing. The democrats should quit practicing it.

Isn't bratwurst and saurkraut german? How is that racist?

Should I be offended?

As for the Kool-Aid being racist, I guess one would have to ask what flavor the Kool-Aid was??!!??

Sigh...people are reaching. I would have never equated Kool-Aid somehow being racist. The first thing that did come to my mind was the Jim Jones thing.

And to switch gears here, I think Powell endorsing Obama is based off of race to some degee despite what he says. But he can endorse whomever he wants...doesn't bother me. Actually if he had ran for prez, I would have voted for him. Wouldn't it have been neat for Powell to run against Obama?

October 22, 2008 at 2:59 p.m. ( | suggest removal )

suzyQ says...

Ninja- I really think it is sexist for the media to try and make something out of Palin's clothing. Do they do that for the males in the race? I don't friggin care if she spent twice that...alot of people are getting pretty preturbed with the media picking our prez for us with such "unbiased" reporting.

On another note, I do think Obama is going to win, and if he does, I really hope he does great. I hope he eases everyones concerns and suprises everyone who had doubts about him. It does disturb me that he doesn't directly talk about all of his contacts with Ayers, Rezko, amongst others. I wish he would elaborate more about that. Maybe I missed it though.

I am not totally happy with McCain, but so far he just better aligns with me.

I am not happy about either candidates healthcare plan, but since when has any prez accomplished whatever they promise in healthcare. I would rather it stay status quo then to do either of these two plans...and that is saying alot because things suck for so many uninsured.

For a campaign that is tired of the mud, they sure do have the media digging up all kinds on the McCain/Palin ticket. I more interested in the Ayers relationship than how much Palin spent shopping. Give me a break.

Secretly, I wish I could go on a shopping spree...just once.

Hey speaking of the candidates, did anyone see the video of the Alfred E. Smith dinner with the candidate roast? The candidates poked fun of themselves, a few other politicians, and paid each other a compliment. It was hilarious I thought. You should google it and watch it. I wish I could see this side of them a bit more. And people say Obama won the debates, well in this instance McCain was way more funny. It was great.

Also, I loved the SNL performance this weekend on SNL, the Sarah Palin rap had me in tears of laughter. The dancing eskimos, Todd, so funny. She was a good sport to go I will say that much.

i did see their speeches at the dinner, and thought they were both great. it was really entertaining and nice to see them more relaxed and like real people.

snl was good, but i totally think palin should have done the rap herself. would have been ten times more awesome.

Yeah I would have loved to see her do it, but the media would have crucified (even more so) her if she did.

You guys have to watch the roast...
