Preslie Weigler was dressed as a pumpkin for her first Halloween. Last year, she was cradled in her parents’ arms. She had no idea what a pumpkin was.
This Halloween, Preslie, 19 months, knows what a pumpkin is, courtesy of a visit to the pumpkin patch, and she can walk.
“This is her first fun Halloween,” says Megan Weigler, Preslie’s mom.
And the blonde-haired toddler is ready.
Preslie has her black-and-yellow bumblebee costume that mom found at Cracker Barrel. She has her orange pumpkin pail with the big grin.
“She really likes bumblebees,” Megan says.
What she’s not so crazy about are the antenna on her head, She keeps wanting to take them off (they didn’t really work for Jerry Seinfeld, either).
Halloween is Megan’s favorite holiday and dad, Noah, enjoys it as well. He remembers trick-or-treating with his buddies until he was about 14 or 15. And, Megan remembers the homemade costumes her aunt made for her.
“My aunt and my mom always made it a really big deal,” she says.
It’s no wonder the St. Joseph couple are both looking forward to trick-or-treating with their daughter.
“The more candy she can get, the better,” Noah quips.
Last Halloween, Preslie was too young to actually eat the candy, but this year she can sample the sweets.
“If there’s any left after I go through it,” Noah jokes.
Dad’s off this Halloween, and mom is taking the day off from work. Like last year, Preslie will buzz around to visit relatives in Stewartsville, Mo., and St. Joseph.
“We might take her just down our street,” Megan says.
And, if they’re home, Preslie can indulge in another Halloween tradition. The little bumblebee can help mom and dad pass out candy to other trick-or-treaters.
