Local Red Cross director, Kevin Kirby, stands among the 200 cots that were readied for Hurricane Gustov evacuees. Sunday, the city received a call that no evacuees were coming to Missouri after all.

After hours of putting up an evacuee shelter in St. Joseph, volunteers Wednesday morning and early afternoon taking it all back down. Employees from the Buchanan County eastern district, county maintenance and the Red Cross all volunteered their time.

200 cots had to be disassembled, pillows had to be stored and other supplies stored. Those supplies are stored in a regional storage facility to be used for other emergencies.

Buchanan County emergency management director, Bill Brinton, says even though no evacuees utilized the shelter, it was still a good experience.

not as many people were evacuated.

Numerous other tropical storms and hurricanes are developing in the Atlantic, including Hanna which is set to hit the east coast later this week.

Brinton says he doesn't think we'll see many affects here in St. Joseph from that storm. The St. Joe NOW weather team says rain coming from the south is the result of Gustov's inland movement.
