From: North Platte, NE
Today we went 145 miles up to North Platte, NE.
Today was suppose to be the day we got 20-30 mph head winds, but the direction of the wind was a little off so it wasn't hitting us directly in the face. I checked in with the weather and they said it was only about 15 mph. So that helped a lot.
We both had to kind of drop down to the drop bars on our bikes, so our necks and backs are a little soar.
So far, we've been pretty luck with the wind. We've managed to stay ahead of the freezing temperatures and the snow, and then today we missed the strong head winds.
I don't know if the forecasters are predicting the worse or we're just getting luck. If it's luck, we'll take it!
As we've hit NE, things have flattened out and scenery has changed a lot more agriculture, so things are starting to look more familiar. You should think you're in NW Missouri or Iowa if it wasn't for all the irrigation they do up here.
My math skills are starting to deteriorate as the trip has gone on (as well as my ability to concentrate), but I believe we have about 360-380 miles back to St. Joe. With some tail winds and flatter grounds we should be able to put in some good miles as things go on.
I think both of us are getting more and more homesick everyday, but we should be back soon.
