It's your call, Sept. 12, 2008

Give it back

I'm just calling to ask the person who stole my son's bike from Corby Street if you could please return it. My son has saved up for a month. He's only 6 years old. And someone came in our fence and stole his bike from the front porch and I think that is awful. So, if someone could please return his bike I would appreciate it.

*******

Lights out

They've finally synchronized all the traffic lights on the North Belt Highway today. They're all out!

*******

What a laugh

I just can't help but laugh at all these commercials playing for Kay Barnes for Congress advertising that she was a cheerleader. Is she running for Congress or is she running for student council president? I just can't help but laugh at that.

*******

Stay on the sidewalk

I think there needs to be a city ordinance passed that gives people tickets for jogging on the boulevard where the cars go. Now that they've used taxpayer money for the sidewalks for people to jog, I think they should be required to stay on those sidewalks and not jog out into the street along the boulevards. I use the boulevard to go to work each morning and when it's foggy out they're hard to see.

*******

Crying over smeared lipstick

Wow! What a crybaby McCain is. If he get's this upset over lipstick what war will he start with some country over some petty little thing when he loses his temper there? Big baby.

*******

A flaw is a flaw

When President Bill Clinton had sex in the White House, the far right Republican Party said that was terrible. They said it's a flaw in his character and he shouldn't be a president. Now, when Sarah Palin is running for vice president and she's got this daughter who is pregnant, the far right says, "Oh she's going to get married and we forgive her for that. And we forgive her mother because things are going to turn out all right." But that's still a flaw in the family's character, isn't it? If it's a flaw for Bill Clinton it's still a flaw for Palin.

*******

Campaigning on the job

I'm calling in reply to "Too much self-promotion" in Wednesday's letters. Does the lady realize that McCain also is a senator and has been campaigning forever. And Palin is a governor and they also need her to stay home and take care of business. For that matter, Bush was out there campaigning long ago until he was asked to stay home. He should have been taking care of business for the last eight years.

"Flaw",
Let me get this right. You think that having sex in the White House while being a middle-aged, married man and President of the United States can be compared to a 17 year old girl having sex with her 18 year old boyfriend and getting pregnant? And because of that Sarah Palin is somehow flawed?

You're grasping pretty hard there aren't you????

Clinton WAS the president of the United States at the time. Palin's daughter is not. Nor is SHE running for vice president, NOR did she have sex in the White House. No matter how you want to twist this one there is just simply no comparison.

Flaw - are you seriously trying to say that Bill Clinton and Sarah Palin's 17 year old daughter are even comparible? Did Sarah Palin's daughter get pregnant while she was president of the United States and nobody told me? Was she married to somebody else when she got pregnant? Please, you are cracking me up! Also, does anybody else think this girl is the ONLY 17 year old girl in America to find herself in this postion? I think there is a little too much attention being paid to her pregnant daughter and not enough being paid to the actual issues of the presidency.

Flawed: This just goes to show people are really grasping straws when they point to a 17 year old's mistake as a flaw of her mother's. The kid made a mistake!! Show me one person running for office that has no mistake!! GET OVER IT.

I do think that Bristol Palin getting pregnant is a HUGE flaw against Sarah Palin. If she would have taught her daughter to practice safe sex and given her the knowledge about what her different options were instead of only preaching abstinence then the outcome might have been different. Her boyfriend would have gotten what he wanted, they would have broken up and Sarah Palin wouldn't be forcing her daughter and the boy into marriage just to make it all nicey, nice for the rest of the Pubs.

So they weren't planning to get married before the Veep announcement like the community there says?

And it may be news, but kids all over being taught how to take precautions STILL get pregnant, STILL choose not to protect themselves. Heck you can even get pg while taking precautions, were you there? do you know if they used protection? Protection of any form is not 100%. Heck there are kids and adults alike that are very aware of precautions and diseases associated and still choose risky behaviors. To insinuate that "if only" she would have taught her daughter better is pretty out there.

This can happen in any family, but because you are against Palin (your right) you will use this to twist it up against her as a flaw (also your right). No big surprise. Just out of curosity, are you thinking that she should not teach abstience is best, but instead promote promiscuity? Now that is twisted, unless you don't have issues regarding premarital sex, then in that case...why do you care about Palin's daughter getting pg?

jayhawkbabe :: So every mother of the 1000's of teens that get pregnant each year are bad mothers?? Get real . Also how do you know what she taught her daughter? Your quotes ". If she would have taught her daughter to practice safe sex and given her the knowledge about what her different options were instead of only preaching abstinence" Were you there these past 17 years to know what they taught her and what they talked about? I think not, your assuming you know, but you couldn't possibly know. Also you seem very quick to judge others, are you perfect? What gives you the right to judge what kind of mother she is? If you must judge then judge her on her abilities or lack thereof to be vice president . Not on what kind of mother you assume she is.Also there are two parents in that family why is it that people like you are only judging the mother ?

Here is the usual smear, I got this from CNN Glenn Beck and also is what Palin ACTUALLY believes:
Smear- "Palin only supports abstinence to be taught in sex-ed!"

This claim is usually followed by a super classy comment about her daughter and the use of contraception, but the premise is false. Palin hasn't said she doesn't want condoms discussed in sex-ed, calling their discussion "relatively benign."

"I'm pro-contraception, and I think kids who may not hear about it at home should hear about it in other avenues. So I am not anti-contraception. But, yeah, abstinence is another alternative that should be discussed with kids. I don't have a problem with that," Palin said. Hers is hardly an extreme point of view in America today.

momswisher - exactly! We don't know what was or wasn't taught in the Palin home. She is not the first pregnant 17 year old and she certainly won't be the last. For goodness sake people - get over it. I certainly don't hear anyone jumping on Bill Clinton for the kind of parent he was. And the example he set for his daughter and the rest of the world for that matter. So Sarah Palin's daughter is pregnant. It does not say what type of mother she is. We are not electing a mother we are electing the next president of the United States! What is wrong with you people wanting to hold a 17 year old girl (who I might add, is very well aware that she is pregnant)to a standard higher than you hold yourselves? There have been "political children" who have caused plenty of blushes to go around because of their actions. Please, don't act like Sarah Palin is a one parent home because as I understand it, she has a very supportive husband who has been with her since high school.

That doesn't mean she isn't procontraception does it? To me that says she doesn't want to pay for their contraceptive or fund that program. I think general health class already covers some of this stuff..at least it did when I went to school. I don't believe we have school-based clinics here do we? If so, I'm not aware of it. Do they provide contraception in our public schools? Don't know, just asking....

I don't think her views are all that different from other states, cept maybe California and their San Francisco values (joke here)

September 12, 2008 at 2:54 p.m. ( | suggest removal )

suzyQ says...

Well I don't see that in the fact that she doesnt want to fund programs the contraceptive device, I dont see where it states that there can't be discussion about it. Just like she said in the comment of hers I found, she thought that was "relatively benign" discussion. Maybe this deal was all lumped up and written in a way that she had to choose one over the other INSTEAD OF (and including all three sex ed, clinics, and distribution). Why not just sex ed topic in health class? Dunno just throwing it out here. Does the govenor have control if it can or cannot be taught? Or is that something voted on, state by state?

I believe she will comment more about the subject, but nonetheless, regardless it has nothing in comparison with slick willy encounters as the person called in about on this.

Cant the kids go to Patee for stuff like this? I would think most kids would be embarrassed to go the school nurse of health teacher...

Give it back- I hope whoever took the bike will return it. I wonder if it was kids though, but you have to think someone's parent ought to realize their kid is home with a new bike that they didn't give them. Then again, I have seen parents who set the example by stealing themselves.

So sorry, I hate that your little one's innocence has to already be influenced by ill-actions of others.

I really hope that bike returns.

Let's make one thing clear. Bill Clinton did NOT get pregnant in the white house.

4wildones says...

Orliandor no one said Clinton got pregnant in the white house, the comparison was about having sex. (or were you just trying to be funny). I believe the sex ed issue is all in the wording. Did you notice that she said EXPLICIT sex ed would not get her support. Why would we need EXPLICIT sex ed in school anyway. I also don't believe the kids these days would have any trouble going to the school nurse. If you haven't had an close contact with teens these days you would be amazed at what they think is no big deal and I think that is one of the major problems with this whole issue.

Sex ed is good, but does NOT have to be as explicit as some recommend. I'd also point out that abstinence SHOULD be taught right alongside every other possible form of birth control. To do otherwise is not only short-sighted...it's plain stupid.

"Explicit" sex ed? What, are they afraid someone wants to show them how to do it? I think the term should be comprehensive sex ed-- meaning to teach all forms of birth control, including abstinence.

Palin has back-pedaled off and on since she first started running for office concerning sex ed. It must who the audience is at the particular moment-- During the gubernatorial race, she supported abstintence only. But she has changed her views lately to say that other methods of birth control should be taught. I guess when in Rome.....

I think we should all take bets on whether Clinton is the first standing president to have an affair while in office.... I know what I would bet :)

KAS,
You want back-tracking? Obama back-tracks so much a bloodhound couldn't keep up with him. For instance, go back and review his pre-nomination stance regarding troop withdrawal from Iraq to his post-nomination troop withdrawal stance. He flip flops so much he looks like a fish out of water..........what a concidence, that analogy fits perfectly!

azmaggie,
They won't attack him because he walks the walk rather than just talking. I have never met her son but I am proud of him. I am positive that Mrs. Palin is scared for her son but also that she is incredibly proud of him and his decision to enlist. He is doing his family and his country proud. May God watch over all of the US troops.
