The owner of two bulldogs who attacked and bit two little girls will get to keep her dogs as long as she takes them out of St. Joseph.
Kellie Veale allowed her dogs, Mercedez and Brutus, to run out of her yard. The dogs attacked two sisters, ages nine and eleven. After impounding the animals, animal control determined the dogs were vicious, and asked a judge to order them to be put down.
In court Wednesday, Veale pleaded guilty to leash law and registration violations and to animal neglect. Veale was ordered to pay about $350 in fines, and $609 in impound fees.
City Prosecutor, Rebecca Spencer, says this is not the outcome the city was looking for. The city wanted the dogs destroyed. Veale declined to speak to Saint Joe Now today, saying her attorney advised her not to comment on the case. Veale previously said that she wanted to take the dogs, and move out of Saint Joseph.
Municipal Judge, John Boeh, did warn Veale that if he finds she did not move the dogs out of the city, he will order them destroyed immediately.
