First Presbyterian to install new pastor
The St. Joseph community is invited to celebrate with First Presbyterian Church the installation worship service of its new pastor, the Rev. Krista Kiger. The service will begin at 3 p.m. Sept. 28. The preacher will be the Rev. Connie Monroe of New Hope Missionary Baptist Church.
The church is located at 301 N. Seventh St. in downtown St. Joseph.
Also, First Presbyterian welcomes the St. Joseph community to come for Wednesday Night Lights starting Oct. 1. Come to the church at 5:45 p.m. and enjoy a meal with your family. At 6:30 p.m., there will be a short prayer and praise time. At 6:45 p.m., classes will begin for children ages 3 through fifth grade, youth grades six through 12 and adults.
The three classes offered for adults will be: “Beginning at the Beginning,” a class for parents of children ages 1 through 5 who want to become their child’s best teacher; “The Purpose Driven Life,” exploring Rick Warrens’ popular book; and “Saving Jesus,” a DVD series that is a contemporary exploration of the life of Jesus Christ led by the Rev. Gospel sing-along to take place today
Highway to Heaven Church, 6231 Sherman St., will have a gospel sing-along at 6 p.m. today in honor of Ruth and Louie Thompson. Refreshments will be provided. Everyone is welcome.
Repeat performance planned for play
Due to overwhelming response and demand, there will be a repeat performance of “The 50th Annual Polk County Picnic” on Sept. 28 at Carnegie Baptist Church, 6520 Carnegie St. The performance will be given during the morning worship service at 10:45 a.m. Everyone is invited and is welcome to come early, at 9:45 a.m. to attend Sunday school, then stay for the program.
Presentations will focus on end times
The Rev. Terry Wolfe will be returning to St. Joseph to present a series entitled “The Impending Conflict” beginning at 7 p.m. Sept. 29 at the Ramada Inn, 4016 Frederick Ave. The meetings will be free to attend. The opening-night topic will be “When Prophetic Powers Collide,” which will be followed on Sept. 30 by “Star Wars Live! Not a Movie,” on Oct. 1 by “Prophecies Great Tsunami,” on Oct. 2 by “Iraq and Egypt: Their Prophetic Omen,” and on Oct. 3 by “Prophecies Death Angel.”
Francis Street First has retreat
Francis Street First United Methodist Church, 110 N. 12th St. in St. Joseph, will host “Reach Up, Reach Out,” a church retreat, from 9 a.m. to noon today in the church’s Sunshine Room. The retreat will be led by the church’s new district superintendent, the Rev. Dr. Steve Cox.
Sophia Center to host ‘Inner Healing’
Sophia Center, 751 S. Eighth St. in Atchison, Kan., will host “Inner Healing: Freedom Through Reconciliation” from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 11. Sister Constance Krstolic, OSB, will be the presenter. The cost to attend is $50, including a $10 deposit.
Choir concert scheduled
St. Francis Baptist Temple’s adult choir will perform its annual concert beginning at 5 p.m. Sept. 28. Everyone is invited to attend.
Wesley UMC to raise money for missions
Wesley United Methodist at Ajax and Pear streets will be holding services at 8:15 a.m. with special music by Larry Myers and 10:45 a.m. with special music by the choir. Sunday school will be held at 9:30 a.m. The pastor is the Rev. James Barnett. Everyone is invited to attend.
The church also will hold its United Methodist Women’s basement sale from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Oct. 2 and 3. Breakfast and lunch will be served, and all proceeds go to missions.
