The campaign of congressional candidate Kay Barnes gets a boost early this week from a pair of high-profile Democrats.
On Monday, Democratic strategist James Carville will appear at a rally for Ms. Barnes in St. Joseph. Rep. Steny Hoyer, the number-two Democrat in the U.S. House, heads to Kansas City on Tuesday for a fundraiser to benefit the 6th District challenger.
Ms. Barnes is looking to unseat Republican Rep. Sam Graves, a fourth-term lawmaker from Tarkio, Mo.
Mr. Carville, in St. Joseph to speak Tuesday morning at Missouri Western State University’s Convocation on Critical Issues, will join Ms. Barnes for a 4:30 p.m. event at Callison Hall, 1220 S. 10th St.
In 1992, Mr. Carville helped lead the campaign of Bill Clinton in defeating presidential incumbent George H.W. Bush.
The invitation to the Carville event says, “Contributions of $25 and up person will be gladly accepted.”

The Tuesday fundraiser features Mr. Hoyer, the Maryland Democrat and House majority leader. It will begin at noon at the Hilton President Hotel, 1329 Baltimore in Kansas City.
Ticket levels range from $150 on the lower end to $2,300 at the top end, according to the Barnes campaign.

The Carville event was a fun event, contributions were not required. Let's talk about Sam Graves continued support for Pres. Bush and Dick Cheney's fundraisers for Graves. Let's talk about Sam Graves fedral runway he uses into the district. Why is Sam Graves one of the nastiest campaigners in the country & yet a poster boy for the Boy Scouts where "character counts", how disgraceful.
Posted by joetowner on September 30, 2008 at 7:37 a.m. (Suggest removal)Kay Barnes has been a disaster for Kansas City, and would be a disaster for us in Washington DC. The last thing we need is someone to tow the party line of Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid and their cronies. At least Graves will buck the president or his party when he feels the need. Graves is a solid representative for Northwest Missouri. Yes it is unfortunate campaigns are won or lost on 30 second ads, but Barnes is just as guilty at the negative campaigning as Graves.

Graves has bucked the trend on numerous occassions. if you recall that dumb bash Bush bus that came rolling through town cited Graves allegiance to Bush a womping 77% of the time, which in reality isnt very much. Graves went against the President on School Vouchers, the farm Bill, Immigration and several other issues where he felt the President was wrong. I think Graves has been a fantastic representative for this district.
