The Civil War is coming to Saint Joseph... again! There is no need, however, to be alarmed, it's all in good fun.

Friday afternoon the woods on the banks of the Missouri River were teaming with camps and tents for this weekend's events.

Over 200 re-enactors from this and surrounding areas have registered to participate in the Civil War experience. The first battle planned for Saturday afternoon at 2:00. People are also invited to visit other times throughout the weekend to walk through the camps and get a feel for the time period and experience a taste of history.

Richard Carter traveled here from Kansas City to be the cavalry chaplin for the weekend. He says there are many reasons people get decked out for these events. Their love of history and just getting together with other re-enactors.

The Civil War battles are set for 2 pm Saturday and 1:30 pm Sunday near the Heritage Park ball fields just north of Terrible's Casino.
