It's your call Aug. 4, 2009

An honor

I deem it an honor to spend $6 million for the final resting place of our heroes. Surely we can afford $6 million to take care of those who came home.

Straight talk

I heard on TV that Congressman Roy Blunt, the guy who's going to run for Senate in Missouri as a Republican, is questioning President Obama's citizenship in the United States and it has been proven without a doubt that he is a citizen. If he hadn't been a citizen, don't you think Sen. McCain would have brought that up?

Suds summit

Obama wasn't a very good example for the young people of this country, trying to solve the Crowley-Gates problem with alcohol.

Punishing

doctors

How can it be justifiable for doctors in Medicare or Medicaid to be reimbursed only on the basis of results or outcomes? What if a patient has a progressive disease, a patient's treatment involves trial and error with various medications, a patient has undiagnosed ailments that compromise his recovery, is told to lose weight or quit smoking and simply doesn't? Why should the doctor be penalized?

We stink

There has been a horrible chemical odor in the air lately, especially at night. I notice it Downtown, Midtown and even near the Belt. Has anyone else noticed this?

Savings?

I'm calling in regard to the 63-cent school tax. I don't understand why it's 63 cents when they've already closed two schools, laid off teachers and shuffled the students around. It doesn't make any sense.

No solution

I'm calling in response to "Turn it off" in "It's your call" in regard to the national health plan. I would like to tell you all about my family's personal experience with national health in Germany. My cousin was 50 when they diagnosed her with cancer. They treated it. She had a recurrence of cancer at 70. They told her she was too old for them to invest money in further and basically go home and die. Which she did.

Feel the trickle

I'm calling in about today's article "Love the GOP" where he's talking about how we're all Republicans because we take care of the rich and the big businesses. I have got news for you, partner. If it wasn't for the rich, people wouldn't have jobs. So think twice, partner.

Punishing doctors, punishing patients

What the caller may be referring to is the provision in the Democrat health insurance scheme for the establishment of the Center for Health Outcome and Evaluation. The concern is that this unelected board could ration access to medicines and treatments based on the government's assessment of the value of a human life and the 'cost-effectiveness' of treatment.

Rationing of Medicare and Medicaid services is a certainty because of the $634 billion cuts made to these programs in the face of an substantial increase in the senior population. $500 billion of the decreased funding is in Medicare alone. The Democrats say these cuts will be made over the next 10 budget years, but because the reform scheme doesn't go into effect for four years, the Medicare cuts actually amount to nearly $100 billion a year for the final six years.

Sen. Mike Enzi, a Republican, introduced an amendment specifically insuring that the Center for Health Outcomes and Evaluation could never put a value on a life by measuring it against bureaucratic "quality of life" and "cost-effectiveness" standards, but it was rejected by a Democrat party-line vote. Such end-of-life measurements are routinely employed in European countries with socialized medicine, observed Sen. Brownback, where "elderly, disabled and medically dependent patients would be at greatest risk of being denied necessary care."

Straight talk says "it has been proven without a doubt that Obama is a citizen". Actually, it is not without a doubt.

There are still lawsuits pending and there are still circumestances not "proven". How did Obama get a fullbright scholarship....as a "foreign student". Hummmm

As previously recited there is a great deal of his "record" that is "not released". I wonder why. School records, legal records, etc. Doesn't pass the smell test.

He arrived in this country without a dime....and a month later left on a trip around the world. Hummmmm

Please don't suggest it's "without a doubt. As I recall we were promised transparancy.....I haven't seen much of that.

I have an open mind......do you.

The caller states Obama's citizenship is proven "without a doubt". That would not be a true statement. There are still court cases pending.

And, there is a great deal of other information about his record that is "not released". I wonder why. His school records, senate records, etc. We were promised transparancy. Where is it.

I have an open mind..........do you

How do you know it hasn't been proven? Just because there is a pending case doesn't mean a thing. He can prove it tomorrow and the next day someone could still go file a lawsuit. Get a grip. Or maybe you have too tight of a grip.

Birth origin is an important constitutional issue. Obama was born in Honolulu, Hawaii according to Department of Health, Hawaii on August 8, 1961. But you missed out on another point, McCain was born at Panama Canal Zone, Panama on August 29, 1936.
So he was not born in the USA, unless Panama is a state?

there are 2 ways to be considered American by birth. 1) either of your parents are american (important if you are born in another country), or you were born here (important if your parents are foreign). either way either canidate was (unfortantely) qualified to run for our nations highest office. now the debate was to vote for the either the senate clown, or the senate joker. the jury is still out on that......

truthbetold....sorry your perception is abit shallow....the point of suggesting pending cases is what I thought was reasonably apparent.....they didn't file those cases without substative position. They have not been summarily dismissed. Until all the evidence is in, there is a legitimate question pending.

Mr America had it correct.....if there was no question why don't they just serve up the proof. If someone questioned me, that's what I would do.....I have nothing to hide. Does Obama have something to hide.

and, like I mentioned all that other stuff.......why is it being "not released". Something to hide.....well, it would appear.

My kids have served up authentic birth certificates to play baseball....football....boy scouts....you name it. No hestitation

Why is Obama so reticant...........? Maybe he has something to hide.

The point I was tying to make was both where born under US law as US citizens. Obama to a US mother in a US state, Hawaii. It does not matter where the father is from, even the planet Xenon.
McClain was born in a US military hospital to both US parents. In the US Panama Canal Zone was an unincorporated U.S. territory.
So what is good for one party is the same for the other!
The real question is who in their right mind would want to follow Beavis and Butt-head (our past 8 year mistake).

ibc, how do you know why, or what information they had in regards to filing those cases. Let us in on what you know. The Dept of Health in Hawaii has already verified the birth certificate and FactCheck.org physically examined it. I suppose that isn't good enough for you. A friend of mine was born in England. His mother is puerto rican and father is from England. 4 months later they moved to the states. Yes he is an American Citizen and a British Citizen. Quit being so shallow minded and start thinking for yourself and quit listening to all the Obama haters.

1) I agree with the above comments from IBC and Mr. America. If Obama's place of birth is a "non-issue" then why hasn't an official birth certificate been provided and why are there legal cases pending on this issue?

2) Regarding Obama's national health care plan, all I have to say is, if you think health care is expensive now, just wait until it's free...

3) Finally, we need to pray for our nation and it's leaders.

Truth....you didn't happen to notice that I clearly stated I have an open mind. I have not reached a conclusion. I have not seen enough evidence at this writing to overcome some of the strange omissions in the fact case. I'm so shallow minded that I can't absorb those instant conclusions when the information is incomplete.

I notice you didn't choose to explain all the missing information that Obama has blocked release on. Isn't it ironic that he campaigned on a "transparent Presidency". Answer......yes, it truly is. It makes you wonder

The question is not whether or not Mr. Obama is a citizen of the U.S., but whether or not he is eligible to be president--which requires that he be natural born(meaning born in the U.S., if, as in his case, only one parent is a U.S. citizen); a citizen at the time of the adoption of the Constitution; or born in the U.S. after the start of the Revolutionary War but before the adoption of the Constitution.

Regardless of WHERE he was born, Mr. McCain was born to parents who were BOTH U.S. citizens, therefore also meeting eligibility requirements to be President of the U.S.

The fines for speeding and red light offense in this town are a big joke. $50 means nothing when a 14 year old gets 35 dollars a week allowance. Fines for speeding and red light offenses should start at $100 and go up from there. Then maybe people would pay attention to speed limit signs.

My 14 year old doesn't get anywhere near $35 a week allowance. In fact, he doesn't get allowance at all. What does a speeding/red light ticket have to do with 14 year olds anyway?

The President has shown an official birth certificate from Hawaii--if you go to the St. Joseph Public Health Department you could get the same certified birth certificate if you were born here or you could send to Missouri Vital records.

Also, since one of Obama's parents was American, even if he were born elsewhere, Obama would have had the choice of citizenship when he turned 18. But, as several have commented, he was born in Hawaii and Hawaii was a state before August 4, 1961.

LBC and others--stop the silliness. McCain lost the election fair and square.

Or is this silliness about race? Is it coincidental that most of the "birthers" are from the South?

Obama is president--usually patriots vote according to their conscience and then support the man or woman who is elected. Obama was elected.

What we need is citizens to stand up to the big insurance/health care corporations and join in demanding health care reform with a public option or even a single payer system. So far the insurance/healthcare caball has spent over $160 million fighting the current package. Will Americans turn over their health care decisions and their money to insurance companies and hospitals or will you let your Congressman and senators know that you want constructive change?

Peoplerule..........McCain is not an issue. He certainly wasn't my favorite....but openness and transparancy is. Obama is hiding more than I can imagine. WHY. The birth issue is only one. There are many things, in fact, almost most facets of his background that they refuse to "release". WHY. Theres a snake in the alfalfa/

Usually there is no question about the facts.....in this case theres a lot of questions....WHY

And, I want to truly disagree with your conception of health care reform.......we don't need communism. Please don't use words like "constructive change" when that isn't even on the table......it's political change to provide Obama the magnificant total control over our lives.

Again, those who question his presidential eligibility are predicating the question on the requirement that those born of one American citizen and one who is not must have been born in one of the united states in order to be eligible to run for President. Obama's birth certificate makes it clear that he was born in Hawaii, however, those who question are trying to make a case that he was born in Indonesia or in Africa and therefore ineligible to even run for presidential office.
