Grants given to fight drug crimes

Five law enforcement agencies in the region will receive federal Justice Assistance Grants to help combat drug-related crimes, Gov. Jay Nixon said.

The money, to be allocated by the Missouri Department of Public Safety, originates from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009.

Grants will be awarded to Caldwell County, $32,000; the Northwest Missouri Interagency Team Response Operation Drug Task Force in Grundy County, $96,000; Northwest Missouri Information Sharing Project in Maryville, $148,000; the Platte County Multi-Jurisdictional Enforcement Group, $278,000; and Buchanan County Drug Strike Force, $288,000.

Trenton celebrates arts

Art in the Park activities will be held Aug. 29 at Sesquicentennial Park in downtown Trenton, Mo.

The program kicks off the 44th year of events sponsored by the Grundy County Friends of the Arts Council. Local artists' displays, crafts, concessions, sidewalk sales and bed races will be featured.

Trenton Brass will perform at 5 p.m., with selections by other area musicians to follow. The bed races are set for 6:30, followed by more musical entertainment.
