KANSAS CITY — The Kansas City Royals announced agreements with third-round draft choice Wil Myers and fourth-round selection Chris Dwyer on Monday. Terms of the contracts were not disclosed.
The Royals selected Myers, a catcher from Wesleyan Christian Academy in High Point, NC, with the 91st overall pick. The 6-foot-3, 185-pound prospect batted .532 with 14 home runs and 41 RBI as a senior. A right-handed hitter, Myers was listed as the number two “Best Pure Hitter” among high school players by Baseball America in the publication’s draft preview.
Dwyer — a 6-foot-3, 210-pound left-handed pitcher out of Clemson University — went with the 112th overall selection. Dwyer was the first eligible freshman selected from a four-year college.
The Royals still have not signed top-pick Aaron Crow, the No. 2 overall selection, but still hold negotiating rights with him until a week before next year’s draft. Crow spent the past season playing independent baseball, excluding him from Tuesday’s midnight signing deadline.
